danielk50's dry denim... Nudie/ Imperial/ Flat Head/ Dior/ Samurai

Old/Retired/Sold pairs have been condensed to make my journal easier to read...

Regular Ralf Dry Selvage
33x34

Received March 31 from Cultizm
These jeans got me addicted to dry denim
I lurked around several "nudie" websites for several months before I got these... what a waste I should have just bought a pair and started breaking them in! I ignored everyones advice and didn't size down with these big mistake. They were pretty loose even from the start and still stretched out significantly.
Day 1:

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC02274.jpg
decided to go with about a 1" cuff so they wouldn't drag too bad since I wear flip flops to school most of the time.
Just a couple WAYWT pics from the first couple months:

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC02411.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC02438.jpg
I babied these for the first couple months:

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC02308.jpg

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC02444.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC02445.jpg
...and here they are jumping off a bridge with me
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC02475.jpg
Beginning of May, Ralf is just over a months old, I graduate from college and go on a six week trip to Sweden (I was born there, grew up there, and still have lots of family including my Aunt who paid for my flight for graduation )
This is sometime in June, starting to wear them harder now and it's been
nearly everyday for 3 months...

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7.../Nudies6-1.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7.../Nudies6-2.jpg
Stockholm:
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7/daniel_k50/020.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7/daniel_k50/059.jpg
and the house I grew up in
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7/daniel_k50/037.jpg
After six weeks in Sweden, a visit to Stockholm's Nudie store, the Hultsfred Festival, many camping outings and hard nights of partying I finally gave them a soak when I came back home sometime in the first week of July (they were just under 3 months old but pretty dirty.
I then decided to try living "the poor life" for a few months and took what little money I had saved, and spent time on friends couches wherever I felt like staying that week. After 16 years of solid school, the time off was nice. I wore these every day for the next 2 and a half months and tried to beat them up as much as I could.
After 5.5 months right before the first wash:
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...Sfrnt5.5mo.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7.../RRDS5.5mo.jpg
...and just after the wash a couple days later (appx 40 C. a little bit of detergent)
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC03387.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC03388.jpg
After the first wash I started hiking in them now and then. I wasn't very pleased with the way they turned out since they were too baggy and for the next couple months I rotated them with my new RADG. The honeycombs weren't tight and sharp, and my whiskers were hardly existent since they were so loose. I did get the odd creases running down the inside of my leg though because that's where most of the creases were made since they were looser. Having washed them, they shrunk up nicely, to appx the original size, and lost about an inch in length despite a so-so seam stretch. Unfortunately I don't have pictures pre second wash...
After the second wash at about 8 and a half months:

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/rrdsknee.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...50/rrdshem.jpg
and that's my story for my first pair of dry's...

Imperial Duke
33x38
14.25 oz Japanese selvedge

These are my first straight leg jeans... Huge inseam on these, hope to get some really nice stack fades as the time goes on.
Fit pics after a few weeks of stretching:
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...uke1mofrnt.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...uke1moback.jpg
These were super tight to start with (I wouldn't even wear them out of the house for at least the first week!)
Detail shots just over a month in... just to show the amazing detail and construction of these jeans.
what little wear I have so far:
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...uke1mofrnt.jpg
combs:
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...ke1mocombs.jpg
Imperial engraved buttons:
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...1mobuttons.jpg
you know they must take their time with these if each model and size is hand written on the inside pocket... oh, and selvedge
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...e1mopocket.jpg
5 months old (appx 3 months of wear)
stared wearing my Dukes quite a bit the last couple months and it's really showing... coming along very nicely and the color on these things is just amazing. Hopefully I'll get a chance to take some good detail shots this weekend but for now:

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...DSC04078-1.jpg

Regular Alf Dry Greycast
32x34

About 3 and a half months and somewhere along the way they started really fading fast... I have to walk up and down a pretty long, steep driveway every day and we have had a bunch of snow, wet, and cold here this winter. As you can see, my hems are getting a beating. I will try to rotate these and my dukes for a year before I wash either one of them, it will be interesting to see how much color I can beat out of these things in that time!

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...crotchshot.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...l_k50/hems.jpg

NEW!!!
RRDG are now around 26 months old. Never soaked or washed, but they were dry cleaned early this summer because they smelled too bad to keep in my room. MAYBE 9 months of total wear however. I'll continue wearing these jeans as my "beaters" but don't plan on washing them until they are falling apart and need to be taken in for major repairs.
pictures are from the middle of December, 2009:

ahhh roping

Thanks a lot!

These are retired from everyday wear, I do wear them now and then for special occasions when I need to show everyone I know why I wear jeans for 6 months to a year without washing them

I'll be adding the early stages of my two other projects and introducing a possible new addition here shortly!

wow... been a long time AF! lots of changes recently as I've gone a bit crazy with the dry denim the last couple years

1.) the original RRDS have long been retired and are worn maybe 2-3 times a YEAR
2.) the RRDG are now over 2 years old and yet to be washed... I did have to dry clean them once because smelled like roadkill. They are worn on and off (mainly when #4 or #5 are in for repairs) and I'll work on getting some updated pics up for you guys ASAP.
3.) Imperials have been sold and just recently replaced by a true to size pair of Samurai s710xx which is currently in the mail.

now on to the good stuff
The Flat Head f310
size 34

these were of course soaked before wearing to shrink them into their wearable state
early fit pics as the creases and fading were just starting up... probably 2-3 months at this point but it's hard to remember...
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC04297.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC04298.jpg
soaked for the first time a couple months after this.
fast forward several months to the first wash at 6 months maybe...
I wore these tight, all the time, and brutally as you can see by my destruction pictures below.
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/photo-62.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/photo-61.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/photo-63.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC04565.jpg
and using some denim scraps and an amazing repair lady came out with this!
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/photo-16.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/photo-17.jpg
fit pic around this point... not sure if it was before or after the wash but as you can see, they stretched out quit a bit!
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/photo-64.jpg
After the second wash after 9 months of wear :
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC_5595.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC_5596.jpg
After the second wash I purchased my Diors and these were only worn sparingly at best. They were washed for the 3rd time in April of 2009 and have not seen water since.
pictures are from December, 2009:

last picture is probably the closest I could get for the actual color...

Wow very impressive collection. I like how your taste in denim and clothing has evolved.
First a very flashy, white/stud belt with the nudies and now a simple leather belt with real japanese denim.

haha yes, I totally agree. I think I was a junior in college when I first started out and I have grown up a bit without a doubt! Wish I knew then what I know now... I don't mean to be a jackass but a single pair of Sammys/FHs is worth well more to me than any 2-3 pairs of Nudies!

^I have no idea man, sorry. I got it about 4 years ago and don't remember the model name. It's the weatherproof material through where if you splash water on it the water just beads up and rolls off, awesome jacket, I'll always stick up for TNF no matter how much the black Denali has become a "bro" uniform around college campus' everywhere.

Dior MIJ 19cm
sz 32
fit pic (sorry for the terrible quality, but it's all I could find!) after a month or two of wear and stretch...
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...photo-45-1.jpg
these are known for being extremely stubborn as they are very soft (for dry denim*) to start but they were a nice change from the stiffness of the Flatheads, even after being washed a time or two...
on a trip to Boston this January.. the jeans are probably 3-4 months at this time...
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC_5038.jpg
starting to fade a little some months after, still not losing much color and I was FRUSTRATED because I was wearing them non stop and as hard as I could without seeing a whole lot of results...
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC_5345.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC_5369.jpg
finally after probably 7-8 months and quitting my job to wear my denim full time (haha, not the ONLY reason) I moved to Seattle and started hiking the hills of downtown on a daily basis... this combined with a really warm spring for Seattle standards and tons of sweat actually started getting some fading going!
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC_5647.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC_5648.jpg
I then got asked to tour manage a band on a nationwide US tour this summer and since we were going to be gone for almost 2 months and I was planning on wearing the jeans on a near daily basis I decided to send them to the dry cleaners before we left. I'm not sure how I managed to not get pictures after dry cleaning but there wasn't much change except they shrunk up a bit and got even softer... I was worried they would no longer fade but as I started wearing them on a daily basis throughout the summer tour they got filthy again and sure enough, the Dior denim actually got some fades!!!
these pics are right after tour at the beginning of August (probably around 10-11 months old) after the first and only wash...
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC_6512.jpg
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e7...0/DSC_6516.jpg
I've continued to wear them on a daily basis and they are coming along very nicely but they are currently at the doctor getting stitched up and reinforced all over so I can keep wearing them without having to worry about them falling apart at any given moment... I shall update again when I get them back in a month or so...
pictures from December, 2009:

next: Samurai s710xx's...
quick fit pic... worn for a couple weeks, will continue to stretch/skrink as time goes by.
by far my favorite pair to date

ya the Samurai denim is out of this world... I wish I could get my full jean pics to come out as good as my macro shots! My sister is a photographer, I'll try to get her to take some better pics when I visit her next month...
