| | | How do you tell if something is raw or not? Hey guys Ive got a little problem, my sister got me a pair of jeans from her vacation, and I am unsure whether or not it is raw. There is a label on it which warns that it will fade until its first wash, and to be careful of light surfaces, but I am not sure if that means it is raw.
I did a search on the brand, I cant find any information. The brand is called Celio. What kind of things indicate if a jean is raw or not?
So far, what I have done is wiped a tissue accorss it, it came off blue. My socks are a bit blue too! So far, I have been wearing it as if they were raw (if they are ! ) So any thoughts?
Here are some pics from here
Thanks a lot for the input! |

| | | those look like they could be raw. Did you try a google search to see if they make dry denim? |

| | Judging from the pictures alone, I would say that your pair of jeans indeed looks raw. But that alone can't really tell me if it's a rinse or if it's actually dry. The fact that you say the jeans are leaving traces of indigo on most surfaces is a "good" sign.
The other thing you may want to ask yourself is how heavily starched do the jeans feel? Many dry jeans will have a certain amount of starch in the fabric which can aid in the formation of natural wiskering. They will feel stiff and somewhat coarse. If your jeans meet that description, chances are they are definitely dry, though I should also inform you that not all dry jeans are starched as such. It is not, in other words, a predominant deciding factor.
I still strongly recommend you hang onto and wear them. Abstain from washing them if you like. They seem a very nice pair of jeans nonetheless.

| | I do like them, cept I dont have any shirts for it... yet
As for startch, its actually very, very soft, hell I could sleep in them but, (I think) some wiskering is starting to form, on the back, some lines are starting to form If they are raw or not, I guess I will just have to see... Ill wear them like they are just in case though
should I put a bit of starch on the places I want to wisker? |

| | | If you talking about the back, I assume you are refering to the rear knee joint? That's usually the first spot you start to notice heavy creasing.
Regarding the starching question, you'll get a mix of opinions in the dry denim community. Some swear by starching their jeans on practically a weekly basis to get heavily set honeycombs and lap wiskers. Some even more, carrying cans of starching solution in spray bottles and applying it in public. Others, such as myself, prefer a more natural approach and refrain from synthetic methods of aging the denim or aiding the natural fading process.
But it's a personal choice. Starch if you want. Many choose to do so as it is known that the more heavily starched your jeans are, the more quickly they tend to start to fade.

| | | As coni said, they are a raw finish but I doubt they're what you'd call dry denim. In other words they will eventually fade...but its gonna take a while. At least thats what I get judging from the pictures. But if THAT much indigo came off just on a tissue and ur socks. It should work.
In case you ever feel like investing in a pair of dry denim, nudie or apc would be great to start you off.
