| Sanforizing is basically a process done to the denim material before construction to limit the total amount of shrink to a projected 1% if not less. Most dry denim companies use this process on their material, and it doesn't affect the wash. It is not the equivalent of pre-washing/pre-shrinking.
As for how to tell whether or not a pair of jeans is sanforized, the company will usually make some effort to let you know on the garment itself. Nudie, for example, places shrinking information on their inside pocket. If you are looking at a pair of dry jeans, and the projected shrinkage is stated to be 3% or less, you are probably looking at a sanforized pair. If you have any doubts, just ask an associate/seller, or post a question on here.
