I can start you off on the right foot by telling you that "Selvage" has nothing to do with the stiffness of the denim nor does it nessesarily suggest that it is dry. Selvage merely means that, when produced on the shuttle loom, the selvage end of the denim is closed as apposed to cut. It has nothing to do with the quality of the actual denim so much in that it is an expensive process to go about and hence, the jeans made with selvage ends tend to be more expensive.
