I saw that article too. Agreed about the comments. I wish they went a little more in-depth about raw denim in article. Not EVERYONE who wears raw denim waits 15 months (like you said, seems excessive), so the article made it seem like 15 months is the norm, kinda.

^ Hahaha, it figures that fella is a Nudies wearer :P

I wonder who first came up with this 'no-washing' concept?
It's like people who use their vegetable-tanned natural leathers without oiling; in both instances there'll be very fast wear-and-tear results, but ultimately the patina won't be anywhere as good as properly maintained pieces, and the fabric itself will be damaged.

I wash my jeans around once every 30 effective wears.
I'm curious how often female raw-denim wearers wash theirs... my gf washes her jeans after every couple of wears (she can't imagine going even a week without washing!)

I read another article based on his experiment. Apparently the amount of bacteria accumulated in 15 months of wear is practically equivalent to bacteria accumulated in three weeks of wear. If you put the jeans into the freezer, would it kill the bacteria or just prevent them from growing? The experiment would be flawed if all the bacteria were killed off halfway into the experiment.

I'm from NYC and I use public transportation frequently; multiple times a day sometimes. I think my jeans have picked up wayyy more than 5 kinds of bacteria.

Ranchu - I haven't washed my Good Society's. I began in April 2010 and have kept a tally. Since I rotate pairs every so often + going on a hiatus during the summer, I have only worn them for about 60 days. Being that they are GS, they take forever to fade so I don't think I'll be washing them until I hit the 150 day mark.

Yeah, but I guess a lot of them don't appreciate, or understand dry denim. I know someone who buys a lot from garage sales, and when she gets home she always puts everything in the freezer for a day or so. It does kill the bacteria!

Freezing clothes does not kill bacteria. Some die, but not all. Most go into a state of suspension and start reproducing again once thawed.

Gah, people shouldn't even be washing regular jeans very much. Especially not after just one or two wears.

I wore my fav pair of True Religion Super T for a year before I finally decided to wash it. It didn't stink or anything I just felt like it was time... I mean it's been a year lol
This time I'm going for 16 months. Gonna beat his 15 months record.
