The main point I was trying to make was that he was going for the wrong cut. If I recall correctly he's purchased grim trims, slim jims, and new cures when he needs something that has a fuller upper block that fill be much more flattering. Having purchased 3-4 pairs I then assumed he was pretty serious about dry denim and has committed to finding the right pair, which he will then wear for an extended period of time. I completely understand (and somewhat agree) with trying cheaper western brand first if you're unsure if dry denim is for you. My first pair of dry's were Nudies after all. As for the price argument, I have to disagree when you talk about spending 3 times as much on the Japanese brands. I had to pay near retail for my Nudies because there just weren't any available in like new/very slightly used condition back then so they ran me near $200 for a pair of RRDS. Like I said earlier, I got my Samurai's (and my Flat Heads for that matter) under $175 because I waited patiently until I found a pair on the supermarket which someone had purchased, soaked, and decided they were the wrong size. Again, this doesn't work for all sizes, but ScoobaSteve and myself both wear larger sizes that are much harder to resell, thus regularly being available for great prices. I completely get what you're saying and I'm not trying to argue, just saying with some research and some patience you can find great deals on top notch denim without having to spend a fortune. I myself am not in a position to buy Samurai's for $330 either.

Steve, I think those would be great. Kiya's (owner of SE) pair turned out amazing! I've never seen them in person so I can't 100% vouch for the denim but if Kiya carry's them I'd count on them to be solid. What concerns you about the sizing? I think a 34 would be perfect, the only thing is the leg opening is larger than what I prefer, these are straight with no taper. If you wear R&R's in a 34 I think these would fit you great as long as you dont mind a larger hem. Do you have a favorite pair of jeans? You should measure the waist, thigh (at crotch) and hem of them let me know and I'll be able to give you a better idea as I think we're essentially the same size.

I have seen those RJB in person and they are definite high quality.

Agree w/ what Daniel said ... I paid retail for my FH and Sammies but I am also lazy and want instant gratification. Plus I doubt I will find a size 30 or 31 anytime soon for under $175 unless I wait for a long time since those sizes are in demand. Time is something that is important to me and I at this point in my life I wouldn't waste time breaking in a pair of jeans that I didn't absolutely love. If you are buying and selling your jeans every couple of months you simply have not found the right pair yet ...

I totally value all the information that you guys are giving me. I'm not trying to be difficult so I hope I am not coming across that way. You just stated exactly what my biggest fear is....I buy a $300 pair of jeans, get them hemmed to my size and shipped to me then I hate them. There is no way I will get my $300 back because no one will pay me that price for this size. Thats why I have been sticking with the cheaper ones. I was able to find the Slim Jims, Grim Tims and NCs at waaaay below their normal price and sold them for at or near what I bought them for.

I am also worried about the leg opening on the Real Japan Blues. I think I would prefer a taper as well. I normally don't get jeans (prewash) with a leg opening larger than 8.5......I don't know what to do.....aaaaah

My favorite two styles of jeans are 7FAM Standards and Nudie Slim Jims. The raw Slim Jims just didn't look right for some reason but I have two prewash Jims that I love.

I feel ya man, it sucks. I haven't been able to try a pair of denim on before purchasing them for over 3 years now... The best advice I can give you is to know the EXACT measurements you want and not settle for any variations. Also, don't hem ANYTHING until you are 100% sure you want to keep them because that will lead to a huge loss when it comes to resale.

I prefer 8.5" hem's also... don't know if I could do a 9-9.5" :/

I wish you luck man, it's frustrating when pair after pair doesn't work. hang in there, you'll get the right pair eventually. are you on sufu? register for an account and just browse the market for a good deal on a pair of Samurai 710's or 0500's...

I am on sufu, hypebeast and styleforum. I have been for a few weeks. There are never any size 34s out there. And the ones that are out there have been too expensive. Plus, I am only a 29 inch inseam so if I did buy them secondhand, I then have to find someplace that would chainstitch. I have no idea if there are any around here.

be patient and they will come. Like I said, I got Flat Head f310's (their most popular cut) and Samurai s710's each for around 155-165 shipped. hope those N&F work out for you though!

I'm having the worst luck ever. If I had a decent job then I wouldn't think twice about going for the expensive stuff, but I might be jobless in May so I am kind of freaking out. If the N&F don't work out then I am going to try the Epaulets. The guy that owns the place is a poster over at StyleForum and I told him my measurements and he told me which pair to buy and if they don't fit to send them back for free for a different size or refund. They are $145. If those don't work, then I might be done looking for a little while

Probably not, they're not sanforized and the guy only did a short cold soak. Probably got a lot more shrinkage left in 'em.

Don't feel bad. I just had to let a pair of Studio D'Artisan SD-203's go on ebay because I didn't have the cash for them yet. Sweet price too, even with the $30 shipping charge from Japan.

I gotta find some time to get my Diesel collection up for sale and get some cash. My wife will kill me if I drop 3 bills on a pair of jeans so I gotta build up the Paypal reserves.

Yeah, I just posted some AG's yesterday and they still haven't gone through.

Typically, as long as you've got good pictures, measurements, and all the requirements it'll go up without a hitch. The mods get busy though...what, with having lives outside of the forum and all . Can't blame 'em.

Saw 'em on the hypebeast forums. Too bad, dude.

So...repeat after me: "I will not buy skinny cuts ever again"

Are you seriously blaming him because you are an overweight person who keeps trying to fit in to skinny jeans?
