Is creatine good for you or are there side effects?

I am a bodybuiler at the gym and was wondering would creatine increase my mass, but then I heard negative things like it decreases penis size or causes gasrtointestinal problems? I currently just eat a healthy meal and take my dad's product as a supplement which is made out of pumpkin pentose and help me have alot of energy and I have gain quite some mass so far.

1) You are not a bodybuilder if you do not know what creatine is, regardless of whether you use it or not...

2) Creatine does not decrease penis size. You are confusing it with steroids. And even then, you are confusing penis with testicles.

Now we can move on to the more informative points...

3) Creatine is a natural substance found in foods. By taking extra creatine, you are supplementing.

4) Use of creatine, creatine monohydrate especially, for some people causes gastrointestinal discomfort. The solution for this is to reduce the amount of creatine you are ingesting, or to cease creatine supplementation. Creatine supplementation since the 1980's has not been shown to be harmful. But neither was Viox, until it was pulled from the market. Extremely high amounts of creatine, however, will be hard on the liver/kidneys, as it is excreted, therefore it is best not to take more than the recommended amount. Extermely high amouts of creatine also has the potential to cause sudden cardiac problems, due to the fact that the heart is also a muscle.

5) Benifits gained by creatine supplementation involve increasing your body's store of creatine phosphate, which aids in generating energy during short bursts of exercise. This has been shown to provide athletes with increased performance during bursting type movements, such as lifting weights. Also, creatine supplementation draws water into your muscles, thus increasing your body mass (with water weight) and giving your muscles a fuller appearance. These benefits go away once you cease supplementation.

That is a biased statement too, that is like saying someone is not a golfer if they don't know what Callaway is maybe they are a really good golfer just could care less about the brand name. So I'm in pretty good shape I just don't get into all the supplement junk.

^Because it is damn hard to get all your nutrients you need as a "bodybuilder" ALL naturally. Your definition of bodybuilding is probably being used more a lot more loosely than what most people would define it as.

I'm interested in knowing what the rationale is behind pumpkin pentose as an excercise supplement?

creatine studies are like assholes....everybody and there dog has one. i tend to believe that, in moderate amts, it is beneficial...not harmful. i say that because it is my opinion....and have read enough "studies" and talked with enough people to support my opinion. i take it for 6-8 weeks and then take a month or so off of it. i don't see the harm.

not sure why everyone is giving the op a hard time. you never know until you ask.

It doesn't build muscle the pumpkin pentose it just gives a boost of energy. I take sometimes protein bars and eat a balanced meal to achieve muscle. But, the pumpkin pentose is very healthy its also used for healthy glucose metabolism. If you want more information on it the website is (www.idontthinkso.com)......I think my dad is building a new website soon but thats whats up now.

how come you cycle creatine? i know a few people who do this but it doesn't make sense to me. obviously, cycling steroids allows the body to recover to normal hormone levels. but creatine's effects aren't hormonal.

Vik,

I mentioned it earlier. Did you see Jesse legs? He's got a bigger bow than Robin Hood. He need to rest the bowleggedness every 4 to 6 weeks.

I second that, no need to cycle creatine at all.

I cycle creatine. Your body supposedly gets used to it and the effects seem to flatten out.

To the OP...you realize that creatine is in food naturally right? So this whole deal with doing things all naturally is a bit of bs because you're already consuming creatine.
