Carboholics Anonymous

Hello, my name is thestylechick and I am a carboholic.

So, I am working on being healthier with my diet and exercise and thus far it's going pretty good. I am focusing on eating more fruit and veggies, and lean meats and beans/legumes. I'm also stepping up my exercise routine (I fell off the wagon because of a work schedule change and it just went downhill from there, sigh).

However, I am having trouble with cutting back on my carbs, namely bread. I'm not doing anything specific (no Atkins here) but I am working on cutting back on refined/processed foods. I'm pretty good with using spaghetti squash in place of pasta, and pureed cauliflower rather than mashers (although I do love sliced sweet potatoes roasted in the oven and drizzled with a little olive oil, fresh garlic and parsley). I have tried substituting a tortilla/wrap for sammies, but it's just not the same. I just love sinking my teeth into a great thick slice of sourdough.

Any other carboholics out there? Any ideas on how to get over the insanely crazy draw of a great hunk of bread?

I'm a little bit of a carboholic sometimes...I've found that substituting crappy stuff like white bread with more filling whole grains will give your carb addiction satisfaction while also tiding you over for longer

I can manage to down several pieces of thick toasted bread, drowned in mouth-sticking jam and peanut butter, or with luscious honey on it. Yeah, I'm a carb-eater! But I try and not eat much of processed carbs, except when I have that sudden freak out and snap and end up gobbling down massive amounts of brownies and cookies.

I eat some cottage cheese, or some nuts, or drink tea in order to try and avoid breaking down sometimes Darn those holiday pounds!

I love carbs too, but I try not to go overboard on them. The best thing you can do is just substitute whole grain options for the bread, pasta, and rice. That's what I do because eliminating them is just not acceptable to me.

I am a carbaholic. I love everything carb. What I do is try to eat better versions of whatever I am craving. If I want pizza I'll get a whole wheat boboli crust and put turkey pepperoni on it and go light on the cheese. If I want a sandwich I use sprouted grain bread. When I want pasta I eat whole wheat pasta. If I want chinese food I make it with brown rice (not take out chinese food, but homemade). I find that eating whole grain versions fill me up faster and keep me full longer. But once in a while I just order pizza delivery if I just gotta have it.

Gawd! I hate carbs.

That is why I only stick to rice, wheat, and donuts. Yeah, that bread will put weight on you like no one's business.

there is nothing wrong with carbs!!!!

in fact, if you are a healthy and active person, you should be eating like 55-60% of your calories from carbs!!

i was never more lean and fit than when i was eating 60% carbs....you just have to ensure that they are "good" carbs (whole grains, fruits, veggies)...and not "bad" carbs (refined sugars, ect.)

carbs give you energy!!

I, too, am a carboholic!!!

literally just a few blocks away from my workplace is a place called breadworx.. WAHHH!!!!

I just basically try to do what Liz does, substitute things Im really craving for with something a bit healthier.

Im also extremely hooked on diet pepsi.

actually, sweet potato/yams are good for you, so don't cut down on those! they contain high levels of antioxidants.

Back when I did crew, we had pasta feeds the night before a race to carbo-load. My first year I rowed, so it was useful. My second year, I was a coxswain, so I was just eating out of enjoyment.

I LOVE carbs! These days, instead of giving them up totally (which just makes me insane) I'm doing what people mentioned above: whole grains, whole wheat pasta...that sort of thing. I'm really trying to cut out all processed foods/refined sugars etc. So far, so good!

I love carbs too; I don't eat much junk food at all, but there is a reason that all the comfort foods are carbs...Yummy!

Speaking of carbs, I pretty much ran 5.75 miles so I could justify eating some this morning. Heh.

Pretty much all I eat is carbs. Bread & pasta are a daily occurance for me. I just blame it on being Italian, lol. I could never ever do a diet that required me to cut out my carbs. NEVER!

Oh don't get me started on pasta and bread!!!
I hate those restaurants that serve you bread before your dinner...once I start, I can't stop!
So I've been good about making sure the pasta I eat is whole wheat with omega 3 and all that good stuff.
But switching to wheat bread has been harder....

Hah, I need to find one of those shirts!

Now, I need to find a local baker willing to whip up a whole-wheat sourdough recipe

Edit: found a tee! Not Paul Frank, but I'll keep searching....
