The Lemonade Diet! (aka the master cleanse)

This is the diet that beyonce made famous - drink nothing but lemon juice, maple sizzurp, and cayenne pepper mixture for a number of days, lose weight, feel great. (it's slightly more complicated than that, but not really.)

Me and my friend are studying abroad together in London and because we're poor, we've been gorging on yummy mcDonald's basically for every meal and we decided that now was as good a time as any to detox our bodies and save ourselves.

So for those of you who ever wondered if this stuff really works...it totally does! Well, I guess it depends on what your definition of "works" is. I did it for three days only because of various circumstances, and the first day was killer. Everyone in my office started offering me donuts and sandwiches and chocolates and such. I toughed it out though, and by the second day I was feeling REALLY good. The third day was so easy too. I don't have a scale so I don't know if I lost weight, but I definitely felt really good and my jeans were looser for sure.

Funny thing is, you get really addicted to the lemonade mixture. Even now, like a week later, I find myself wanting to drink the stuff with my lunch.

Has anyone else here tried it? Results?

I had a friend do this. She said it tasted nasty, but worked temporarily. She gained most of the weight back.

You can lose weight with all kind of crap. But only a change in our diet will keep it off for good.

I was trying to say that in my post, just I wawaaaaay to subtle. Thanks Jenn!

I never held much stock in those Master Cleanse and Hollywood Liquid diets. Smoke and mirrors in my opinion.

I tried this for literally half a day and I was freaking out. I guess I should have known that hypoglycemics shouldn't try to drink a bunch of sugar while fasting. I normally don't eat processed sugar and I have to eat every 2 hours or I start blacking out.

In short, the fasting thing is not for me!

The Lemonade Diet! (aka deprive your body of nutrients substance and energy while torturing your body)

I read about this on soompi and it is ridicuous. (like 99% of the other topics on that site)

lemons, syrup, and peppers is not enough. Your body will hate you.

Unless your weight is harming your health, there is no need to lose any.
A healthy balance diet and exercise is the only way to HEALTH.
A "diet plan" that cuts corners will only lead you to a cliff down to unsatisfaction, low self esteem, and all that mucky stuff.

i don't do cleanses. my sister does them at least once a year. she claims she feels better as well.

she has yet to convince me that shocking your body like that is a good idea.

and while i understand that you are in london and it is very expensive there....i've also been there and my recollection of europe in general is that fast food isnt a cheap alternative there.

I think that most of the weight lost is water weight which is why it is gained back.

Isn't the main purpose of the cleanse to detox not lose weight? I suppose most people who are on it are trying to lose weight though.

Why not lose weight the old-fashioned way? Consistently eating balanced, healthy meals and exercising will do wonders. I lost all the weight I wanted to and more just by cutting back on calories and exercising frequently.

Hahhaha it's not meant to be a weight loss diet! I agree that calorie deprivation is a terrible idea. You end up consuming about 1,200 - 1,500 calories a day if you follow the instructions. Clearly you are lacking protein, so doing the diet for an extended period of time is a bad idea, in my opinion, although some people do it for 40 days.

This diet is designed to cleanse out your system. No processed sugars (pure maple syrup isn't processed at all), artificial anything or preservatives. Give your body a break. (and zoki - I totally know that there are def. cheap alternatives, my comment was kinda tongue-in-cheek cause I've always been one of those eat what's delicious type of people :P)

I'm wasn't trying to preach fad diets! I'm just normally very adverse to any kind of "system cleanse" or healthy acts in general, and after trying this and getting good results I wanted to see if anyone else had tried it. I'm perfectly happy with my weight but usually feel sluggish or sleepy. I'm sure you could get similar results from eating organic foods all the time.

Okay, first of all, there is no such thing as cleansing your system. Second, if you want to give your body a break, try fasting. Even better, get on the Fuhrman Eat to Live six week plan.

I have done this a few times and its a good way to flush out some of the crap in your body. I dont suggest this as a diet to anyone.

ditto what FriskyL said. It's a cleanse, not intended as a weight-loss plan or a permanent way of life. Some people can't fast without ill effects, for others it's a healthy rest for the digestive system.

I've done it but found it to be expensive (all those fresh lemons and maple syrup are pricey) although it does work. Like most people I gained back most of the weight I'd lost on it. It isn't exactly a low-calorie diet, comes in at about 1200 cals a day if I remember right. Short term, the weight loss is mostly water.

I don't think fasting, or a modified fast, is a fad. People have been fasting for religious or health reasons for centuries.

Lemons, peppers, and syrup doesn't give your body a break, OR "cleanse" it. You feel "clean" because you haven't been consuming much. But in the inside, your body suffers from it and will try to gain everything (and more) back ASAP!

To feel less "sluggish", exercise

You don't get "similar" results by eating "organic" foods. And organic doesn't necessarily mean healthy. (Oh this chocolate is organic so i'll eat more of it!)
You get BETTER longer lasting results by exercising and eating right.

Well, like some other people said, there isn't a way to "cleanse" your body. Our bodies are able to clean themselves just fine and have been doing so for thousands of years without any fad diets. Those sites and pictures you see of people that have poo'd out hardened "toxins" are a sham. You can get the same hardened "toxins" (minus the crap) if you mix all those ingredients in a bowl and let it sit.

I don't feel there is any health benefit to doing a cleanse program or any sort of fast. When you're on a very low Calorie diet or even a low Calorie diet you're depriving your body of its necessary energy and it'll hold onto that any energy in the form of fat when you start eating normally again. Also, when on those diets more muscle than fat is being burned, causing even more harm.

Uh, I M so tired of hearing about diets.
Really the equation is easy: Less calories + exercise= weight loss.

Fuhrman Eat to Live will change your life!! I dare say that if anything "cleans" out your system (which doctors say is impossible, and even not advisable) this one does-- 1 lb. of raw and 1 lb. of cooked veggies a day.
