Maybe try not to worry about 2-3 pounds sometimes worrying about what you eat so much will cause you to obsess about what you shouldn't eat and you end up eating it.

If you have an attitude of being "good" or "bad," and restrict a lot on some days, of course you'll end up bingeing later!

Try eating whole grains and beans in addition to veggies and fruits. It makes a difference.

then don't stay away from the "bad" stuff.

a dietary change like the one your seem to be doing is a lifestyle change as well and it just doesn't happen over night. if you are looking for "tricks" to eat healthier, then here are some:

1. i never deny myself anything. ever. but i eat everything in reasonable proportions and according to the nutritional guidelines. if i want chips, then i have chips, but i take a handful out of the bag and put them in a bowl and eat them slowly.

2. i buy non-fat and low fat substitutes for things that i eat regularly.

3. i only stock my kitchen with fruits, veggies, whole grains, beans, low fat or non fat dairy products. i don't even walk into particular aisles at the grocery store...there is no point.

4. don't drink your calories. 1 piece of fruit is always better than its juice equivelant. don't drink sodas. limit your alcohol and caffiene intakes. a fruit smoothie is actually a meal.

5. be honest with yourself about what you can do or not do. what you are eating and not eating. keep a food journal. if you are switching veggies for chips and fruit for cookie dough, you are also eating a lot less calories. you just may not be eating enough calories on what you are calling your "good" days and your body isn't just craving fat, salts, etc. but is craving the calories.

and your body will change over time. so, no one can keep eating the same things forever and stay the same weight.

sorry for the long response, but you seemed to be dissatisfied with our short ones. there are a bunch of threads on this topic, so run a search in the AF Health and Beauty section too.

Good post Zoki.

I always drink a glass of water before eating.

If I feel hungry during the day, I drink water first. Hunger or feeling unsatisfied is often actually thirst.

By eating healthier do you mean eating low fat food? Low fat food is usually notoriously high in sugars and other carbs. It's not doing you any favours.

Eat more protein and vegetables and lay off the sugared drinks. If you're trying to quit smoking try nicorette gum. They will keep your mouth busy and your jaws too tired to eat ;) Lastly I find that having soup or broth around really helps with the cravings. The best part is that you can make a ton of it over the weekend and keep it in the fridge and just reheat it when you want it.

i ballooned in college and really had to go back to the basics that my mom taught us about nutrition growing up to lose the weight and maintain a healthy body and healthy ideas about food.

Definitely go for low calorie density foods--aka stuff that fills you up for not a lot of calories. I find celery sticks with fat free cream cheese (or whatever really low-calorie dip you like) does a good job with this. And yes, definitely substitute water (or some other sugar free beverages) for fruit juice--there are so many hidden calories in juices and pop.

Ooo celery stick+cream cheese sounds good! Great subsitute for peanut butter

Yes... weight loss secret: Water water water instead of juice/soda (pop [i had a pop vs soda debate with my friend recently.])

Exercise! Do plenty of cardio and strength training. While you may not notice a difference on the scales, you'll see a difference in the way your clothes fit. If you get your PT to take your measurements at the gym, you'll notice the difference in inch loss as you progress.

Once you've been exercising for a while you'll notice your energy levels increase too!

Everything in moderation. If you love chocolate (which I do!) then have a piece of the best stuff you can afford. My current indulgence is Lindt dark chocolate with chilli. If you have the really good stuff you won't feel the need to eat a lot.

Eat breakfast! No excuses. It kickstarts your metabolism for the day. Have a big glass of water when you first wake up as your body will be dehydrated overnight.

If you feel hungry, have a glass of water. Sometimes the symptoms of thirst mimic the symptoms of hunger. If you're still hungry a few minutes later, have a piece of fruit, or low-fat cheese or a slice of multigrain bread with a small scraping of hommus.

Simple things like switching to skim/non-fat milk, not using butter/margarine on your sandwiches (if you use the right ingredients you won't miss it) and avoiding over processed foods can make all the difference. I'm not an advocate of those low-carb diets but try to avoid having too many carbs at night. I NEVER use butter/oil/cream when I cook. If you have the right non-stick cookware and the right recipe you don't even need the oil spray.

Try to have your main meal at lunch. I do this as often as I can and I'm never hungry at dinner time. If you can't give up your pasta/rice/potatoes, have it for lunch, then you'll be burning it off for the rest of the day.

Lots of veggies and moderate amounts of red meat/chicken/fish. You won't go hungry and you'll gradually lose the taste for all the nasty stuff.

Also, try to avoid eating your dinner less than three hours before you go to bed.

If you don't eat, your metabolism slows down and holds onto the body's fat stores. When you start eating properly again, the metabolism is still in a sluggish state and weight gain occurs (the dreaded yo-yo effect!).

Calories in should be less than calories out (exercise). Keep a food diary to help you stay on track.

Hope that helps!!

Down here its all Coke! Pop is a name for a grandpa and Soda is for baking.

OP, there is some great advice here! Don't freak out over 2-3 pounds--that is not healthy for your mind.
