Worried About My Bro Taking Protein Shakes...

Ok, so my bro wants to beef up and he bought these Protein Shakes online (from eBay)

Anyway, when he received them I was kinda worried... For a start, the label on them was obviously just printed from somones computer :-s. Plus, there is no instructions on how you take em, so he's just been mixing the stuff with water I think.

Now he's puking up everywhere but refuses to believe it could be that sh*t that's making him ill!

Am I just bein a paranoid big sister?

The stuff is called Phenomenal Whey Isolate btw.

Found it on eBay: eBay.co.uk: CFM WHEY PROTEIN ISOLATE + CREATINE CEE + GLUTAMINE 2LB (item 280112542343 end time 14-May-07 17:00:00 BST)

What do you guys think? :S

Ummm, looking at that ebay listing I'd say it's definitely the protein shakes. When a listing states at the bottom, "made in a controlled laboratory and tested the HPLC" that would make me worried. What controlled laboratory!? When you make this stuff, it is NOT in a lab.

most protein shakes are fine...but some people are sensitive to the ingredients...especially if they are lactose intollerant. have him go out on the internet and buy a reputable shake. they are all going to say they have been tested in labs or something scientific like that...it's a maketing strategy. protein is essential to building muscle, but he has to find one that agrees with his stomach. trial and error.

Thanx guys! I've told him just to bin this stuff, obv. doesn't agree with him!

How do you find out what brands are reputable tho? I think he should just eat more lol, but then again, we are both blessed with 'skinny' genes! Doesn't matter what we eat!

I would tell him to just buy something at a normal fitness store. I don't know any specific names of stuff available in Scotland though.

If he's really skinny, he might want a weight-gainer instead of a protein shake though.

the problem with buying them at retail stores...really expensive. what i did was get some names out of magazines and then look around online at discount places. here is a link to where i get my stuff...they don't ship internationally, but at least you can get the idea.

Haha yeah true. Well at least get him to consider a brand that you can find in a real store.

That stuff sounds super dangerous! If i were u I'd replace the powder with NestleQuick or something.........

Actually, I agree that SOME protein supplements aren't all that bad. My boyfriend has been using the ISO line, they make ISOWHEY Protein (like a shake), and ISOWHEY Breezers that can be mixed with water and taste like juice. BUT, in my experience you can get just the same amount of protein from half a cup of cottage cheese... both the shake and the cottage cheese have about 20g of protein/serving, but the cottage cheese DOESN"T have those extra chemicals!

*lol* I sound like I'm endorsing Isowhey products and cottage cheese :P That's what 3 years of a protein-fanatic bf will do 2 u!

I can't think of the site right now, but theres a site where you can mix your own blends and have them deliver it to you. Any flavour you want and its quite a reputable company.

but I recommend Ultimate nutrition protein.

Supplements Canada.com - Canada's Sport Supplement Superstore. Get Supplement Ratings, Whey Protein, Creatine, Xyience, Ephedrine, Weight Loss, Popeyes Supplements, Gakic, CLA.

you are missing out on so many BCAA (branched chained amino acids) and complex amino acids and essential amino acids that can only be found in whey protein. Remember whey protein is just skimmed off when cheese is being produced. If you want something without the flavour additives I suggest taking allmax WheyISO natural. No flavour.

yeah, if you want to build muscle you have to supplement your protein intake...cottage cheese is not going to do it. i do eat some cottage cheese as part of my diet, but still probably take about 110 g per day from the shakes and another 20 from a bar. if you get a reputable powder...no worries.

If he's looking to bulk up, this stuff is yummy super tasty and has a mix of fats and protein: Cytosport - Muscle Milk

But if he wants lowfat, you don't want to eat that ^
