Good Calories, Bad Calories - Belly Fat Cure - Why We Get Fat, etc

I have been reading several articles lately and I know that the Atkins diet gets a bad rep (and possibly for good reason) but there seem to be more and more scientific articles, books, studies, etc. that argue against the calories in vs. calories out mindset in regards to dieting. These resources suggest that there is more to it than just calories in vs. calories out and that it more has to do with carb sensitivies and hormone imbalances (often caused by over-indulgence in carbs/sugar).

Belly Fat Cure by Jorge Cruise
Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes
Why We Get Fat and What To Do About It by Gary Taubes

These are a few of them and there are others I'm sure.

I just wanted to start a discussion to get people's opinion on this topic.

Has anyone read any of these books? Thoughts?

Why We Get Fat and What to Do About It is in my Kindle now, but I haven't read it yet. I'll let you know when I do so we can discuss.

I do feel that there are more things at work a lot of the time. I know that if I eat the right amount of calories, but it all comes from crap, I will not lose weight.

Hormone imbalances as well as certain medications can definitely wreak havoc on any weight loss attempts. I do think it's a lot more than calories in vs calories out.

I should get that book too. I have only read reviews/commentaries so far. I have a gift card for my kindle that I haven't used yet.

I have been wanting to read some of those books but haven't gotten around to it yet. I have read the Paleo Diet and Primal Blueprint and they have very good info IMO (the difference between the two is mostly dairy). I have been following Primal for about 5 weeks now and have lost a bit of weight and feel really good. I have cut out all refined carbs and eat lots of veggies in addition to a higher fat/protein intake. It does take a bit of work because everything has to be made from scratch.

Edit: Sorry the books are Paleo Solution and Primal Blueprint.

I got both of the Belly Fat Cure books. One of them is just a food guide that you use with the diet. I read through that one but it doesn't have a lot of the background info. I started the other book so I'll keep you guys posted. I want to read the book Steph posted about next.
