Very confused about Waist Size!

So I measured my waist size for the first time (ever? lol). And my waist size is 37 inches, but I wear size 30 jeans Is there some sort of mathematical equation they use to calculate jean sizes? I would THINK at least for men (since we don't have sizes like 00,0,1,2,3,4,5,etc.) that they would number the waist of the jeans the actual length of it (like they do with the inseams)

I have no idea what the method for sizing mens jeans is DH wears a 31, but the waist on his jeans measures 34" (and I haven't measured his true waist so, I have no idea what it is).

For me, I wear a 23/24 and my waist is 23.5

^I know for women's sizes, not necessarily men's

Though on women's, there can be a huge difference between the tag size and your natural waist, especially if you're a long-waisted pear. My natural waist is usually 25 when my pants size is a 29...if I fatten up a bit, it's 26/30

^from your pics, I bet it's smaller...just suck in when you measure (then again, I measure both the waist and hips really tight, so the ratio is probably the same)

I think the *idea* is that your natural waist size and your jean tag size will be about the same.

Your jeans may measure a bit bigger, though, because they don't sit at your natural waist, they sit lower (at least for women).

^Well, they do use fit models, and those girls usually have exactly 38" hips (tts for a 29, or a misses' 8)...but if their waists are 10" smaller than their hips (which is apparently what we're all supposed to be ) then that throws the whole natural waist = tag size thing right out the window (actually, the fact that straight size models are supposed to be 34-24-34 throws it out the window too. 34" hips are a tts 25/26, usually, not a 24 as the natural waist would be)

uh huh...yeah. but if a chicken and a half can lay an egg and a half in a day and half, how long would it take a grasshopper with a wooden leg to kick all the seeds out of a dill pickle?

I read in some waiting room magazine about surprisingly high-paying jobs that fit models made tons of money. I had never heard of them before that.

Apparently they have them in various sizes, but in all cases you have to be perfectly proportioned for that size.

Bummer!
