I don't recommend it. The amount of salt you are supposed to use is twice the daily sodium allowance. If you have a healthy liver and kidneys than your body is already perfectly capable of ridding your body of toxins on its own. If you do not already have a healthy liver and kidneys then you definitely should NOT do this cleanse. All of these body cleanses are nothing but a fad that somebody came up with to get rich quick. Yeah, you will lose weight from crapping your brains out but you will gain it back as soon as you stop the cleanse. Plus, not only are you ridding your body of harmful toxins, you are also ridding your body of the good bacteria that is in your intestines as well. If you want to lose weight I recommend a healthy low calorie, high fiber diet and lots of water or green tea. If you live by this diet on a regular basis you will keep the weight off. You will also lose any sort of muscle mass you may have while doing this cleanse because of the lack of protein in the diet.

^ that was my favorite part

this is very true. if you feel constipated you could do miralax for 10-14 days while changing your diet, etc. there is no easy fix for weight loss

totally agree.
these quick-fixes are band-aids, that's all.
eat in moderation, eat healthy, exercise and enjoy life. really, that's it.
completely eliminating an entire food group is never a good idea, unless you're grossly allergic to it.

I did the master cleanse once for 7 days...not going to lie, it sucked. The first 48 hours were the worst, but after that I got to a point where I wasn't even really hungry any more, just cranky and tired all the time and bored. The worst part - not being able to chew ANYTHING for that long. seriously, my mouth was bored. I have read that it makes people feel great and energized, but for me all I wanted to do was sleep (what joy is there in life when you can't CHEW anything for 7 days?!?!) plus you don't realize until you're in this position, but almost every social activity has some kind of food/beverage component and you really don't want to be around people eating/drinking/having fun while you're sipping on lemon cayenne water...I did substitute the salt water flush with another cup of "poopoo tea" because I couldn't get down that much salty water. As far as weight loss, I lost the most weight the first 2-3 days, after that it was minimal...so basically not worth the suffering for 7-10 days or longer, but if you are looking for a quick, non-healthy way to jump start your diet, not eating will definitely do it. you're probably better off on a 2-3 day juice fast though, because then at least you're getting essential vitamins/minerals/FLAVOR!

disclaimer: I'm 16 weeks pregnant, and although I just described how bad this cleanse sucks, I will probably do it again after the baby comes depending on how much weight I gain

juice actually has a lot of sugar and calories and definitely not enough nutrients to be considered healthy. most docs suggest fruits instead. its also not a great idea to have your blood sugars spiking and falling with drinking a lot of juice.

^I was talking fresh juice (using a juicer), not like cranberry juice cocktail...I know it doesn't contain all the nutrients you need but it has a lot more than cayenne and lemon water!

eat moderately
control portion sizes
be active
exercise
enjoy life

seriously. my stomach growls just reading these cleansing diets, let alone actually torturing myself with one.

edit: the temporary weight loss you will see on these crash liquid cleansing diets will be VERY difficult to maintain once you eat normally again. the body doesn't like deprivation, and often over-reacts once it gets a taste of its old favorites.

As a general rule I'm always weary of anything with the word "cleanse" in it, in reference to supplements or dieting strategies...

Reading the FAQ is making my eyes bulge out of my head:

Lemonade Diet Recipe and FAQ

Wikipedia:
Master Cleanse - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So...lets clear something up:

Celebrities in general are NOT a reliable source to look to when it comes to advice on how to lose weight.

Dojoqueen's got it right.

"cleanses" are such BS. I have friends that do them religiously and all I can do is shake my head. Your body is built to clear out all the bad "toxins" and waste, and drinking ANY type of juice or liquid substance for a week with nothing else will obviously make you lose weight (duh). I would strongly advise to stay away from any type of detox "miracle" because they have been scientifically proven to be fraudulent and a waste of time and money. I also advise you to watch the episode of Penn & Teller Bullshit on this very subject haha, it will open your eyes tremendously!! ;)

these cleanses only work for those who are anti-vaccination.

something like psyllium husk on the other hand, will clean anyone right out.

My doc and nutritionist also recommend getting fruit juice from eating whole fruits-the fiber in the fruit helps to keep blood sugar levels steady. But for juice--RAW (not pasteurized) fresh pressed vegetable juices are super healthy in conjunction with a sensible diet, sufficient rest, exercise, etc. Works for me.
