Phentermine perscription diet pills, anemia, etc

I'm just curious if anyone has taken these and how they did with it? I went to the doc for different reasons yesterday. My stomach has been swelling throughout the day so bad that I cannot even fit into jeans by noon. By 7pm I look about 7 months pregnant. I've also been having heart palpitations, dizzy spells, etc. everything that looks like panic attacks. She gave me Xanax for that. And antiobiotics for infection that could possibly be causing the swelling in my abdomen. She looked up my past and saw that I was 125lbs in December and weighed in at 159 yesterday. I'm gaining weight uncontrollably. Literally, I eat salads, lean cuisines, and snack on low fat, healthy foods. She gave me the phentermine to see if that would help with my weight gain. I know I'm blabbering but a friend came over last night and got onto me because I was eating glass after glass of ice. She told me I prob had some kind of defficiency. I looked it up and eating ice as much as I do, started about a month ago, caused the stomach to swell. The defficiency would be iron, anemia. When I looked up anemia it gives me all the side effects that I'm having that I thought were panic attacks. I'm gonna call the doc back Monday and ask her what she thinks. I didn't tell her about the ice eating because I really just thought it was a bad habit I had started. Thanks for reading my long post and if you have any experience with this it would be great if you'd let me know.

I think you need a complete blood workup; get off the phentermine.
Have they checked your thyroid too?
Sometimes a food sensitvity (gluten is a bog offender) can cause the stomach to swell and bloat.

Definitely need a more thorough exam to find out why your body and metabolism has changed before resorting to phentermine or any other weight-loss pills.

You also have pica, which indicates an anemia; best to have that under control before takng pills too. You never know what those pills affect, and how much.

IMO

This has been happening to me lately too, my stomach keeps swelling very large and by the end of the day I can't fit into my jeans! I thought I was just eating too much or something but it does it for everything..maybe I should go to the doctor

I did have my thyroid checked about 7 weeks ago when I went to see my OBGYN. They called me and told me it was normal and that was it. This doc I saw yesterday is requesting my lab work from them. She said a normal thyroid is a 0-5 and most physicians will just call it normal. She said if my numbers were 3.5 to 5 though that that was clinically hypo (or hyper, don't remember) thyroidism. Hopefully she'll get that lab work Monday. I really hope we figure out something, I'm miserable all the time anymore. I've always struggled with weight but after I had my youngest I set my mind I was losing the weight. I had never been this small in my life but managed to keep it off for over 2 years, staying on the weight watchers plan the whole time. She scheduled for me to see her in 4 weeks and if the palpitations don't stop with Xanax she would have to refer me to a heart specialist. I've read about Xanax being addictive and just really don't want to take it.

Thank you Dojoqueen!

I would. I've been putting it off for weeks thinking I was just having crazy bloating but just couldn't stand it anymore yesterday. I had to leave my son's feild trip because my jeans were cutting into my stomach! And I wore a new pair I just got that I bought too big so this wouldn't happen.

I'm hypothyroid and gluten sensitive. As far as the TSH for your thryroid, the old range is 0-5, but many docs willl treat anything over 3. My doctor says between 1-2 is optimal.

My thyroid had been treated for almost 2 years and I couldn't lose the weight I put on (which was about 20 pounds) and no matter what I ate it wouldn't go away. The bloating was ridiculous. I had a pair of jeans that was fine one day and literally the next day I couldn't get the button even close to buttoning. I begged the doctors to test me for celiac disease, but they all refused, which was incredibly frustrating. I cut out gluten (all bread, cereal, pizza, etc.) and the weight just disappeared. I had been having GI issues (TMI-constipation) and it all resolved itself. I have been off it since January and I also cut out much of the diet soda that I had been drinking and went from a high weight of about 133 to 113. I feel 100% better.

My experience with doctors has been very frustrating and I have used a lot of trial and error. I do miss bread, but feeling better feels far better than eating it. I hope you can figure out what's going on, I've been through the ringer with this stuff in the past 2 years and I can certainly relate.

Feel free to PM me with any questions.

Kristin

ETA, be VERY careful with the Xanax, it can be very addicting.

^this. it does not make much sense put you on meds without knowing the cause. you want to treat the problem, not just the symptoms.

Thank you so much. I think I'm going to hold off on the Xanax until I talk to her Monday and request blood work. The more I read it does seem like anemia is a good possibility and thyroids for my weight gain. I understand her thinking I'm having panic attacks. Which it still may be also. I have the heart palpitations for quite awhile now but my "attacks" have just started in the past month. On April 5th my 17 year old nephew decided to take his own life by jumping from our high schools football stadium. It has been very hard to understand and deal with so I also thought it was panic attacks. Now I'm wondering if it is anemia and just a coincidence when it all started.

Brandy I hope you get it figured out.

I was just diagnosed with anemia about two months ago. I was having some of the same symptoms as you and my thyroid tested as normal as well. I was also tested for celiac and that came back normal as well.

But I was having lot of fatigue (which lead to lack of desire to do anything), weight gain, headaches, irregular heartbeats (they had me wear a heart monitor)...all these things and the doctors first thought it was depression, but no medications helped that...finally went to a neurologist who referred me out to a hematologist and treated me iron infusions for a month. Now I'm feeling more like myself (exercising, eating better), the heart is normal so some of the things you are going through seem similar.

I hope they figure it out and you should feel a lot better once they treat it.

i was also super anemic and just finished a month of iron infusions. Major heart palps, fatigue and headaches. I was a major ice chewer which is quite normal when you are anemic....but will go away once you get your count back up. Good luck with everything and hopefully they can figure out whats going on. p.s. if you end up gettin g iron infusions ( usually done if iron pills cannot be tolerted) dont read all the crap about them on the internet....it scared the begejus outta me and almost made me chicken out !

^^They acted like I would feel better after my first one....did not happen . I finished up about 3 weeks ago (did them once a week for a month), I would say I think now I am finally starting to feel more normal, so it definitely took me a while.

how dumb of them to give you the impression you'd feel better so quickly. building up blood cells is not an overnight job; it takes some time.

glad you're feeling better, Jess.

Jess, with the anemia, did you just randomly get weak? I'll be standing and suddenly my legs won't hold me up, and my chest feels super weighted down.

with me, im just overall fatigued all the damn time. It is definitely harder to breath and you can totes feel heart palpations. lots of headaches and chipped teeth from eating ice like a crackwhore. Im not sure about your legs not holding you up...i thinks its a general feeling of tiredness.

Yea, mine was more overall fatigue too...where literally if I didn't have to go to work, I didn't want to get off the couch it was so weird to not feel like yourself. But you definitely need to check out what is causing that and make sure everything is okay!

and thanks Shireen...I am starting to feel a little more like my old self

I might have to, I've been putting it off b/c we haven't had insurance since right after the baby was born. I was anemic when I was preg with him though, so I was thinking it may have continued. I really don't want to go in and have them just guess and test random things b/c that would get crazy expensive. I'm always exhausted, but I just figured that was b/c of the boys and school, etc.

I was prescribed this for obesity. I also take adderall for bipolar and the doctor said it should help with my appetite. It really didn't. It made my stomach upset so therefore I would eat to make it feel better. I got a very dry mouth and very dizzy on this. If you can withstand the side effects it may be good for you.
