Hempmilk...lol....

We discovered that my 17 year old daughter is lactose intolerant...so we have been exploring non dairy alternatives. She likes Lactaid milk.
We tried rice milk which she thinks is so-so....even though my younger daughter and I think it is yummy. (The original...the chocolate flavor is gross... tastes like Slimfast).
So the other day we decided to try Living Harvest hempmilk. Both kids said it was disgusting, so I gave it a try tonight. I swear, this stuff tastes like a weed!
I tried to drink a small glass, and I can drink almost anything...but gave up on this stuff.
We thought it amusing though...that they make milk out of hemp seeds.
Does anyone know if they make a sour cream alternative that tastes decent?

My husband works at Whole Foods and I believe there is a sour cream that they sell there made by Tofutti. They make all sorts of products that are dairy free. They make these mini ice cream sandwiches that are to die for!

For a regular milk alternative, I like almond milk! I use it in cereal and smoothies.

I have never tried sour cream alternatives. Is giving your daughter lactaid pills an option for small doses of dairy?

Yes...that works as long as she takes several pills.
One night she was at her grandparents, she had five pieces of pizza, and only two lactaid pills......which wasn't enough because she had problems that night and the next morning.
We had tacos the other night, and she put on sour cream and a bit of cheese....took three lactaid pills...one before, and the other two at 20-30 minute intervals. She was fine.
Milk and cheese seem to be the two things that bother her the most.
She also cannot eat ice cream, so we buy Soyjoy ice cream....which makes her happy!

lol I actually like that stuff! (I have a casein allergy so no dairy anything technically, and pills don't help either) The Rice Dream brand just came out with their Hemp Dream version and it was on sale at Whole Foods so I got a couple cartons...we'll see if it's any good...

I second the almond milk. I get Vanilla Almond Breeze and it's really good with cereal.

I am a non soy person and most dairy alternatives contain soy. I have tried to stay away from dairy for fat loss reasons and possible intolerance reasons and I actually found a great hemp milk by Manitoba Harvest

Fresh Hemp Foods Limited | Home

The chocolate is REALLY good, plus hemp contains the perfect fatty acid ratios.

I also like almond cheese and almond milk.

I've had some decent soy cheeses, but never sour cream.

In the last couple of years I've become increasingly sensitive to
lactose and have pretty much switched to everything soy (except
I sometimes eat ice cream and just deal with it).

I'm gonna do some investigating and see if I can find sour cream
alternatives.

Yes, this is the only one I have tried.

I like tofutti's cream cheese as well. I have never tried hemp "milk" (are they even allowed to call it "milk" as opposed to "drink/ beverage" in the USA? The Canadian Dairy Federation does not permit the use of "Milk" to be used in non-dairy beverages), I usually drink Soy Beverages, there are a whole lot of different kinds and range in taste. The trick is to find one that suits you. Most are sweetened a bit, get those ones while you get used to the taste and then eventually buy the unsweetened ones.

Tried the unsweetened and the vanilla almond milk. Liked both.....the vanilla seemed just a tad bit sweet to me. So far, after Lactaid milk, original rice milk is my favorite.

^^^ I prefer sweetened but original almond milk. The vanilla is definitely too sweet IMO. I think I will try the unsweetened one at some point though.

Almond milk is surprisingly low in calories.
then again it is mostly just water.

But I do know they have sour cream alternatives!
My friend had them at her house when we had homemade taquitos..
I can't remember the name but I know it's out there.
Try looking next to the sour cream or in the health foods section.
