Fish oil supplements with an allergy?

This is something I will take up with my doctor when I see her in a month, but I thought someone here might have some insight.

I just found out that I am allergic to freshwater fish. It's not a super severe allergy, but it means I can only eat tuna.

I take fish oil for SAD. I figure it is is okay as long as it's pure because the protein (the part I am allergic to) won't be in in. Does anyone have any reputable brands to recommend? Any experience?

You could try http://nowfoods.com/index.htm

Very good brand, imo. I use a lot of their products and the quality is excellent.

Why not just take plain Vitamin D3?

Wholefoods has fish oil supplement without fish. I don't remember the brand, it had Omega 3 (DHA). You should have a look and see if it is for you.

If anyone knows the brand, could they please let me know? I am Canadian and there aren't any whole foods anywhere near where I live.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

NOW Foods Products - By Category : Nutritional Oils

You can look at Krill oil, cod liver oil, or flax seed oil. There should be plenty of sources for you to be able to get all of your EFA's. If NOW isn't available in Canada there are a few sources who do ship to Canada. Hope this helps.

This is by far the best fishoil product i have ever seen/used...and i am fish oil obsessed.

I am not however 100% sure about their international shipping, I will look into that further.

I do suggest taking a D-3 supplement as well but you still need your fish oils if possible.

Rivkah, next time I drop into Wholefoods. I'll get the brand name for you.
