Tiger Woods Breaks His Silence

Did anyone catch the news conference this morning? I was almost late for work because I had to finish it. Thoughts?

I watched it... I have to say I am not a fan of "prepared statements".. but I actually feel that it was indeed heartfelt... Not many professional athlestes, especially of his caliber, would put his career on hold while trying to sort out his personal life issues. I agree with him.. get your head straight, get it sorted out, THEN worry about golf.....which Ernie Els' comment really irritated me.... if it weren't for Tiger Woods, nobody would give a shit what Ernie Els had to say....He is the reason golf is in the spotlight.. period!

ehh you may have never played a competitive sport before. you can't do much in terms of focusing if your personal life has gone to the shits, to the extent that his did. that decision was not made out of virtue.

^^ I completely agree with you....yes, I have played a High Level D-1 sport before.. but never have I been on TV every other minute making Millions of dollars....You are totally right.. there is no way he can concentrate on his career until this is all sorted out..personally, emotionally, physically, and financially...I also agree w/ others, to a degree, that he is only sorry b/c he got caught...

but... none of us are perfect. He just happens to be held to a higher public measuring stick... I feel he said he was sorry, and deserves a second chance...BUT, needs to stick by his words and prove it with his behavior...

I was listening to him read his statement and couldn't help to think..Who wrote this for him? As much as there is on the line for him, the PGA, Nike and all these other sponsors, would they really leave it up to him to write a complete apology statement? I'm sure he had a publicist coaching and editing what he should say. In that respect, I didn't really buy it, but the emotion he had while reading it got me.

^^ Yep.. prepared statements SUCK!! but I fear if it were just left to him to "speak from the heart" for the whole thing, it would have been an emotional nightmare, and he wouldn't have conveyed even half of what he really wanted to say.... and yes... I think his emotion was genuine... just the robotic words written overshadowed it....

I didn't watch either, and I'm still quite certain that, like (most) every other celeb/athlete who's ever gotten in trouble, the only thing he's sorry for is getting caught

Whilst I think the guy is a scumbag for cheating on his wife, I don't really think he should have to apologise to the general public. Nor do I care what his statement was. As mentioned previously, I think he's only sorry he got caught. And he is only apologising publicly to try and salvage what's left of his career.

He needs to zip it up and apologise to Elin because she's the only one that matters in all this (as well as the kids). I am so sick of hearing how his reputation has suffered and how awful he is feeling. For fucks sake, it's worse for your wife you moron and she's the innocent party in all this. You poor hard done by little boy. Grow up.

Women who marry athletes know what they are getting themselves into. Get caught, she gets paid. I really don't see what all the blubbering is about. Who fucking cares.

You're obviously not a woman (who has ever been cheated on).

Agreed

And also agreed that the only thing he's sorry about is the fact that he got caught.

How does all this make his wife, Elin, look? Not good in my opinion. Most woman I know would of dumped their husband if they cheated once. Tiger cheated multiple times with multiple women, but yet, there's still that question on whether they'll stay together. First off, if Tiger wasn't Tiger and just plain ole Eldrick Woods, she wouldn't have even given him the time of day. If he was worth thousands instead of millions, she would of been gone by now.

Don't get me wrong..Elin is the victim here and I feel bad for her, but we're so worried about Tiger as a role model, what is Elin telling young women all over the world? Juanita Vanoy, Michael Jordan's ex-wife, not only stayed out of the spotlight but also divorced him when she found out he was cheating.

I think he is only really sorry about the millions he has lost because so many companies dumped him. That would be enough to make me cry too. We had a Tagheuer billboard in this area and they ripped it down quick. I mean, it happened right after Imhotep posted the link here in this thread.

I really do not think celebrities should apologize to the public for their indiscretions. Why the fuck should I care?

I don't fancy golf, but if I did, the fact than an athlete fucked somebody other than his wife would not make me less of a golf fan. Same goes for all sports.

Also, I buy the products I buy because of the intrinsic qualities of the products (real or perceived), not because of the celebrities endorsing them, so I can give a shit about the moral attributes of these celebrities.

Just my .02

I am tired of these demands for apologies and moral superiority when it comes to celebrities - athletes, musicians, etc.

The gas that comes out of my asshole is more convincing than what that lying windbag had to say. He should've just kept it real.

Here's what he should've said - "Look, I'm going to come to your city, bang a ton of white chicks and win the championship and there ain't a damn thing you can do about it." Now that would've earned my respect.
