You can watch the episodes on NBC's website...usually takes a while for the new ones to get posted, so it prob won't be up until the 2nd episode airs.

I had to do a search for FLN --its Fine Living Network, a channel on cable TV.

I'm watching, I love this show! Last season was the first one that I watched, and I'm hooked! I'm not really invested in any of the contestants yet, though, it will take a couple weeks for me to have a favourite, I'm sure.

Same for me (last season being the first I watched). I was sad to see one of the heaviest guys go home, but at least he did well at home (so far). Hopefully he can keep it up and get to his goal.

It seems like they get meaner with every show. First they make them get on the scale in front of hundreds of people with their shirts off. Then they fly them all the way to CA, make them ride 26 miles and kick two teams out before they can unpack their bags. I know the whole show is done to make money, but is all of that shit really necessary? They are supposed to be helping them so why not let them stay at least a week? I am starting to get turned off of this show because it seems to be all about humiliation.

Shoot, I coulda guessed that from the show's name!

I've got issue with the show's name, too. Sure, it's kinda clever, but the language is all bad. "They're fat losers! And they're going to be fat losers! Watch and laugh at the poor suckers!". Might as well hand the poor souls a gallon of ice cream and a spoon and lock them in a closet. Sure, still an indignity, but at least they get to do it in private.

yicccckkkk.

THey may be mean but they do really help people to lose weight. They are also getting better at teaching them how to eat correctly once they have left the ranch.

I don't really watch this, but as far as them being "mean"...this many seasons into this show, I think anyone who would potentially want to be on it should KNOW what they're getting into. If you don't want someone getting in your face and pushing you hard to exercise, then don't try to get on the show
That drives me crazy about Hell's Kitchen, too. They sit there and bitch and moan about how mean Chef Ramsay is...HELLO, unless you've been living under a rock for the past 5 years or so, you should know this! And if you can't handle it, again, don't go on the show!

It doesn't sound like you have ever watched the show. They are changing people's lives here. These contestants would never be as successful in their weight loss endeavors without going on this show.

I wasn't necessarily a fan of them weighing in public in front of their home towns, but it did give them a sense of commitment because they 'promised' their towns to lose weight, which a lot of them took seriously.

Even the guy who was sent home the first week has lost an incredible amount of weight when he went back. I think they give them more help than we actually see. The two teams who were sent home are competing against each other (with help from Bob/Jillian in a virtual environment) and one of them will come back to the show. They have to have different twists to keep the show interesting.

Truth, I don't watch a lot of TV. I'll freely admit that I've never seen the show. Let it also be known that I'm not really a fan of reality shows in general either...

That being said...I have to disagree that I do believe that these contestants could be as successful in their weight loss endeavors without the show. It seems a little odd to me that a person would need to be on TV in order to get a kick-start onto living a healthy life.

I admit, it's not all bad. The show probably does a great deal to help, but I have a hard time believing that the show is the only way these people can get on the right track.

I'm reminded of an old episode of "3rd rock from the sun". Two of the main characters meet at a weight-loss group, sort of like an AA-style setup, called "fat losers". Clever, funny. Good for a laugh. Bring that into the real world though, with "the biggest loser", and I can't help but feel like it's too callous. Comedy is one thing, but when we're dealing with a person's hopes and dreams and something as vulnerable to a person's self-esteem as weight...I just don't believe that this "toungue in cheek" name is quite appropriate. Language is a powerful thing.

I admit, I may be nit-picking a bit. But after seeing previews with fat people standing on scales with their shirts off, I can't help but suspect that "humiliation" is what they're really selling, rather than "hope".

I sincerely hope that I'm wrong, but I'm not going to waste my time watching the show to find out

I guess it's not fair to say they'd "never" be successful, but without being taken outside of their comfort zone, I doubt they'd be able to achieve the results that they do.

If you watch one results show I think you'd find that the humiliation they may feel at the beginning is overshined by the new person they become after their weight loss. Besides, being fat in itself is humiliating to most.

I agree, Kelly. Also, most of the people on the show would never be able to afford to access all of the resources available on the show. A gym membership, two personal trainers, healthy food being provided, as well as being able to take time off work to work on yourself all day for weeks at a time are not something that many of these people would be able to commit to at home. I'm assuming they get paid some money to be on the show, which will supplement the loss of income, which is important - I think being on the show for even a couple of weeks and being able to lose a ton of weight at first is a really great kickstart for many of the contestants. If they could do the same thing without it being on TV, they may be just as successful, who knows? But without the show, I don't know how many people have the opportunity to spend a few weeks working that intensely on themselves without outside distractions. I totally respect other opinions, I'm just putting this out there too.

Thats not what I was talking about. I was talking about flying them all the way to CA and kicking two teams off right away before they even got their bags unpacked. They didn't really have time to learn anything. I don't consider their training and getting yelled at to be mean. I did a bit of time in the Marine Corps and thats baby shit compared to boot camp. Some people need to be pushed that way.

As far as making them weigh in without the shirts, there really is no reason for that. I can tell how fat they are with the shirts and its gross on top of that. Again, the whole thing is to make money so I can understand why they need the dramatics and I agree that no one should go on the show if they don't want to be seen without a shirt. I just don't see the point of getting hopes up of being on the show, finding out they are on the show, fly hours to get there, ride 26 miles on a bike and then turn around and go the fuck back home.

Maybe it just bothers me because I get very cranky during long air travel.

Also, I forgot to add that my best friend is related to Jerry from a few seasons back (her uncle). He told her that Bob and Gillian are MUCH nicer when the cameras are off. In fact there, are tons of personal trainers that they work with, but they are always blurred out on the show. Those are the ones they work with the most I think. Jerry and his daughter are still doing pretty good and have kept most of the weight off.

To be fair, the two teams that were kicked off get to weigh back in after a month and one of the teams gets to compete. I would bet anything that the team that never gets to see the ranch will be provided with nutrition counseling, personal trainers, etc. back home.

I've never thought of the title of the show "The Biggest Loser" to imply "The Fattest Failure", as "the biggest loser" is the title given to the person who loses the most weight.
The only thing that gets on my nerves sometimes is the over the top pop psychology sessions.

That was funny! It looked like it was all from Taco Bell. My husband was like...yum!

It did look like it had been sitting out for several hours though. Of course that wouldn't be appetizing.

Who watched tonight? I'm working on an assignment, so I only let myself watch the last 15 minutes on a break. So sad that John went home but I'm glad to see that he's doing well on his own so far! I was SO hoping for one of the red team to get sent home, I really can't stand them. Grrr. Hopefully next week I'll actually be able to watch the episode!

I think one of the green team went home...honestly i was happy I dont like them at all. Way too negative and just something about both of them irks me haha... Then again over all of the seasons for some reason Biggest Loser in general has aggravated me... I never understood why it needs to be 2 hours and i cant stand the beyond obvious product placement.

^^Yeah, anytime one one of the trainers is in the house they are plugging something. They always walk in and ask them what they are doing and then plug some food item. Tonight it was the 99% fat free ground turkey that tastes like 100% shit. Its got to be 93% fat free or its white and horrible. I made some meatballs with that crap once and threw every last one of them out.

Jen I totally agree with you. I love the show, but hate the 2 hour time slot. It's hard to watch the whole thing, which means I usually stop watching 1/2 through the season.

The daughter on the green team went home because she asked too. I agree that they seem so negative! Did you see their faces when they were on the scale? Total sourpuss face.

No, not last night. Last week the daughter on green went home. This week John (brown team, the one whose twin went home the first week), was below the line and automatically eliminated. The mother on the green team had an appendectomy

I noticed as well that both of them had their arms crossed in a defensive way while on the scale. They looked like some mean ass women, like they would rip your head off and shit down your neck. I know the daughter wanted to knock Gillian out when she was trying to "get into her head". I would have wanted too as well. Maybe the mother won't be so bad with her daughter gone.
