U2 Celebrates Fall of Berlin Wall By Building Another One

Oh, the irony...

BERLIN – Fans hoping to glimpse U2's free concert celebrating 20 years since the Berlin Wall fell were outraged Thursday to find that a 12-foot (3.6-meter) metal barrier was installed to block the view for those without tickets.
Both Berliners and tourists alike saw the irony in building a wall around a concert dedicated to the wall that has already come down.
"It's completely ridiculous that they are blocking the view," said Louis-Pierre Boily, 23, who came to Berlin even though he failed to get U2 tickets. "I thought it's a free show, but MTV probably wants people to watch it on TV to get their ratings up."
U2's publicist RMP refused comment about the barrier.

How much more evidence do you need that Bono is really just a walking, talking, giant douche.

I wouldn't go that far (I actually love U2). But stuff like this makes me wonder why the band keeps doing deals with corporate entities like MTV (wholly owned by media giant Viacom), Blackberry and Apple.

I liked the band's iPod commercials a few years back (U2 refused compensation for doing the ads; the only money the band made was royalties off songs that were preloaded onto a special U2 iPod).

I don't know what "business" arrangements U2 has with Viacom and Research In Motion (Blackberry's parent company), but it inevitably leads to stuff like this.

There is absolutely no reason why a band that is dripping in money need to whore themselves and their music out.

U2 have not put out anything worthwhile since 1987.

We will disagree there Rob. I love U2 and I still love you even though you called Bono a giant douche.

It looks like a laugh, but ultimately will probably disappoint.

Yeah, that degree of douchebaggery only exists in NJ.

Some of it is funny so far, like the 5'4 MBA serial killer look.
