I think as has been discussed, I have the right to say it, but I should have known better and not said anything. Apologies to any offended.
And iloveCaseyandCoach, while we may disagree on a lot, from your enthusiasm and earnest questions in the Pregnancy Thread, I think you'll be a great mom.

Isn't the point exploitation of the kids in the "Duggars" and Jonh & Kate??? . And weren't the Duggars doing something like, the older kids take care of the younger kids, so technically they aren't "parenting" some?

| | | This is what I found...
"The world record for having the most number of children officially recorded is 69 by the first of two wives of Feodor Vassilyev (1707-1782), a peasant from Shuya, 150 miles east of Moscow. In 27 confinements, she gave birth to 16 pairs of twins, seven sets of triplets and four sets of quadruplets. The children were born between 1725-1765."
And Ling, I'm sorry too. I don't know any thing about you or what kind of mother you'd be. I was just being bitchy. I'm blaming my bitchiness on my lack of sleep. |

Thanks for that info

I say have as many as you can provide for. | Gosselin's = EXPLOITATION
Duggar's = NOT EXPLOITATION
The difference is how they act when the camera's are off. The Gosselin's are fame whores, the Duggar's are not.
The Duggar's follow a religious principle called "Quiverfull." While I may not agree with everything they do--I think it is a little EXTREME and CULT-LIKE--they are raising children who will be formidable members of society. As far as the older children helping out, that is part of how it works in those kinds of households. Every child has chores and they all pitch in to help each other. WHAT THE FUCK is wrong with THAT??!! They are taught to LOVE unconditionally and be CHARITABLE and KIND. The reason the Duggar's have a TV Show is to spread the Word. It isn't about money to them. They were loaded before the TV camera's rolled in.
The Gosselin children will likely all have severe problems, probably drug abuse and other forms of juvenile delinquency. Their parents are both greedy and selfish with MONEY being the sole reason they do what they do. It is sad that the future is so grim for this family. If they had a little FAITH in their life, they probably wouldn't have ended up this way.

I'm sick of people making a big deal about siblings helping out. It's part of being a family. My mom never had us help her, and the problem was that we had to learn how to do stuff when we got older. My girls help with making dinner, laundry, dishes, cleaning, etc. Hell, my 3.5 year old can carry a small pile of laundry upstairs and put it in her closet. WTF? When it's done correctly, they still have PLENTY of time to be kids.
The Gosselin's sealed their own fate. |

Thank you. I think we agreed one time. That counts for something right? The two times we did disagree I think we were both just misunderstanding each other. As far as all of my pregnancy questions, at my last appointment I got my hours worth. ha ha. I put them in my ipod when I think of them and then keep the midwife in there for ever. I am getting my insurances' moneys worth.

They are confident and articulate. It is amazing! Michelle's book also has great ideas for saving money and parenting.

The Gosselin's sealed their own fate. | Totally!! A family who doesn't teach kids BASIC LIFE SKILLS is a family in BIG trouble!! I am so thankful that I was allowed to cut the grass, put things together (using DIRECTIONS ), baby sit, cook, do laundry, sew, etc. while I was growing up. When something gets messed up at our house, I don't have to call a plumber, electrician, lawn man, repairman or my husband! LOL, I can do it all myself and prefer it that way--I know it is getting done RIGHT!

| | So late to this party, but I feel the need to add a statement:
Can we please add "proficient in use of subject/verb agreement" as a requirement for having children?
( , of course. Pg 3 of this thread is just loaded with s/v disagreements)

| | | I'm sorry, I never ment to insult anyone on this board that currently has or will be having children.
But, I haven't been raised the best way, so people like me may be sort of hesitant to think anyone that has a lack of good parenting skills isn't ready to have a child. |

My policy has always been to try not to judge others for their life choices and help them when needed.

i think it's really unique to the kids and their own personal choices. if they are only well mannered because of force, most likely some of them will feel too pressured to be "perfect" and want to act out. i just think it really depends on each individual's mindset, because that's like saying all kids that grow up in the projects are going to end up in gangs or jail... and saying that all rich kids will become businessmen or doctors and what not... which isn't always the case, because you have misfits for both.

I think you may not have done enough research on the Duggar's and people like them. The Duggar's do not fit in the "normal" category because of their religious beliefs. I have done ENDLESS research on this subject on another family similar to the Duggars. They rarely, if ever verge off the path of righteousness. It's not just a religious choice, it is a way of life. That is what makes the difference in a Duggar-type household and a regular family who raises good kids. These people marry people who believe the exact same things and are raised the exact same way. It is almost as if they are trying to create their own society. IMO, it is very CULT-LIKE, except without the wacko ideas like poisoned Kool-Aid and shooting stars. LOL.

| | oh i wasnt specifically referring to the Duggars, just in general. i dont know much about the family except the few glimpses i've caught of them on the tv, but undoubtedly (is that a word?) one of the 19 kids will probably want to branch off to unfamiliar territory .
