honestly, im skeptical about how beckham's transfer will have lasting effects on US soccer especially the MLS. It might have a short-term buzz but that's about it. Let's not forget Pele once played for the New York Cosmos and the league eventually folded. The US is a world power in women's soccer but the women's professional league also folded. Soccer is religion to most parts of the world but in the US it's NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL. I also hear talks about Zidain and Figo following suit, but come on even if this happens, let's face it were getting players at the ebb of their soccer careers.

He is one of the best ever, but there was NO "celebrity" with soccer back then like now. David Beckham will turn US men's soccer into what Michael Jordan did to the NBA. Does Mia Hamm ring a bell? She made women's soccer huge, though not nearly to the level of what Becks is about to do!! Becks already has a soccer academy in California--this sport is about to see a HUGE increase in popularity.
