Harry Potter Quiz

From a French cinema mag via Just Jared. I got bored, so ... here you go. Answers come after the questions in the square brackets. You have to highlight to see them (if you need them ). Also, if my spelling is off ... it's because I'm too lazy to look up the proper English spelling (rings especially true for those blasted proper nouns) ... :P

Scan of the original quiz here

The Philosopher's Stone
1. What is the name of the headmaster of Hogwarts? [Albus Dumbledore]
2. What were the names of Harry Potter's parents? [James and Lily Potter]
3. What is the spell for making an object levitate? ["Wingardium leviosa!"]
4. What is contained within Harry's magic wand? [A phoenix feather]

The Chamber of Secrets
5. What message was written in blood on the walls of Hogwarts? ["The chamber of secrets is open... Enemies of the heir, beware."]
6. What potion did Hermione prepare for taking the appearance of the students of Slytherin? [The polyjuice potion]
7. What phrase is an anagram for Tom Marvolo Riddle? [I am Lord Voldemort] --it's funny how they switched it up in French
8. What frees a house elf from servanthood? [Being given a piece of clothing from its master]

The Prisoner of Azkaban
9. What is Hagrid's hippogryph named? [Buckbeak]
10. Why does Harry's patronus take the form of a stag? [Because his father could morph into a stag]
11. What is Sirius Black's true relationship to Harry? [Sirius is Harry's godfather]
12. What are the four names that appear on the Marauder's Map? [Moony, Padfoot, Prongs, and Wormtail]

The Goblet of Fire
13. What does the Dark Mark look like? [A green skull with a serpent's tongue]
14. Where would one find the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic (what a doozy)? [In FRANCE ... oh, really?!]
15. Who represents the Durmstrang Magical Institute in the Triwizard Tournament? [Viktor Krum ... or Viktor Yum, as I like to call him]
16. What does Harry use to breath underwater in the Second Task? [Gillyweed]

The Order of the Phoenix
17. What is the address of the headquarters of the Order? [12 Grimmauld Place, London ... I totally had to look at the answer for that one]
18. What do the initials D.A. stand for? [Dumbledore's Army]
19. Who is the grand inquisitor at Hogwarts? [Dolores Umbridge]
20. Who are the five professors who have acted as the teacher for the Defense Against the Dark Arts class since Harry began at Hogwarts? [Quirinus Quirrell, Gilderoy Lockhart (KENNETH BRANAGH!), Remus Lupin, Alastor Moody, and Dolores Umbridge--this is before HBP!]

How did you do?

1 - 4 correct answers: You are a muggle, completely oblivious to the magic around you.
5 - 10 correct answers: You're a first year student full of determination, but you need more experience.
11 - 14 correct answers: Like Harry, you prefer action and puzzles to studying, but you are on the way to becoming a great sorcerer.
15 - 19 correct answers: Like Hermione, you can't resist any magic textbook. A great-head (I really don't get the seemingly well-known expression une tête bien faite), as they say.
20 correct answers: Well, congratulations! Without a doubt, you are the new Minister of Magic! Glory to you!

Hm ... was it called "The Philosopher's Stone" somewhere? For some reason I thought that's what the name was. Please tell me I'm not crazy.

In French the movie was apparently called "The Sorcerers'/Wizards' School" (L'école des sorciers).

Philosopher's stone was the original name, but in the US, they wanted to market to kids and didn't think they'd want to read something with philosopher in the title.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I knew it had to be coming from somewhere!

I got a perfect score - does this mean I can take the Minister of Magic position from Rufus Scrimegour?

I'm trying! I'm such a nerd - I always go to mugglenet.com and read the editorials and stuff - people are creative! By the way, what do you guys (who have read HBP) think RAB stands for - am I not alone in thinking that it's Sirius' brother Regulus, and that the locket is in Sirius' (now Harry's) house?

korobatsu,

how did you get the answers to show up like that? that is so cool.

i'm a big harry potter fan, too, and i'm trying to figure out why our dear author has decided to call it quits after just one more book. i understand the desire to stop something before it gets bad--and serials can get bad, as Rocky has just painfully demonstrated--but i want to see harry married and with kids.

i took the newest harry potter book on my honeymoon and was at times more interested in harry than in ... well, use your imagination. my husband was thrilled about coming second to a thirteen-year-old fictitious wizard.

Heh, I just changed the colour of the font to white.

Hope you enjoyed the quiz to some extent!

Perfect Score. I'm a loser has anyone else read all of the anthologies on the secrets of HP? Jessica????

RE: Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone.

It's actually Philosopher's in Canada as well, and I believe in EVERY country except for the US (could be wrong on that though). The "big" dudes in the US (whoever they are) did not want children to associate philosophy with the "all pure evil and satanisms" of witchcraft. s: apparently it caused quite a commotion and it was insisted that it be changed as to not "corrupt" the minds of the children into connecting witchcraft with the academia of philosopy...aye.
God love y'all but only in America... ;)
