| | | I haven't, but I did a lot of research because I thought I had it. I think my symptoms were just nerves, though!!

| | | It's very common here in Sweden (in fact more common than in most other places in the world about 1/100) so there are lots and lots of replacement products.
Basically they diagnose you through a biopsy where they look at the inside of your intenstine. If you have celiaki, the villi will be destroyed (don't know the English name) which is where nutrients are absorbed.
You have to completely cut out Wheat, Rye, Barley and Oats, although recent studies show that some individuals may be able to eat oats if they have been processed properly separated from any other grains.

A lot of adults may have symptoms that have been believed to be something else, like weightloss, tiredness and depression. More usually though symptoms are malnutrition, vomiting, constipation and impaired fertility. Often adults have very few symptoms, some even believe they are healthy.

| | | I'm trying to do a bunch of research online, but do you know if there is anything you can do about the infertility aspects of it? |

| | | Well, first of all you need to contact your doctor for a test to see if you really are gluten intolerant. If you are, you need to completely cut out these products in your diet. Usually you get to see a dietician here when you are diagnosed. They will help you with replacement products, recipes and tips.
Lactose intolerant people may cheat once in a while but if you're gluten intolerant cheating is not an option. If you stick to a gluten free diet your fertility should go back to normal. Untreated celiaki may cause women to stop menstruating and reach menopause earlier.

| | | Thanks for posting aqbout this. I have a really close friend who was diagnosed a few months ago, after 8 years of being treated for a mental disorder....that's another story. But anyway, I didn't know about the infertility aspects of it and I don't think she does either. So thank you very much! | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
