| | | ugh...never think i will lose weight:( I've been doing WW for a few months now and my weight has been going up and down with no big improvement. Two weeks ago I lose almost 3 pounds and i'm estatic about it and decide that i will start exercising and i will lose even more this week. So I do my best to stay within point range (except for one night eating out at Longhorn) --AND I exercise by running and doing this stairmaster thing 2-3 miles every day expecting to lose even more weight this week. I go into WW today and I've GAINED .8 lbs. I am just so frustrated - i did not expect all the weight to come off at once, but i did not think i would gain weight after a week of exercise.
The good news is I'm actually starting to like exercising and its easier for me to go to sleep now. The bad news is i have no clue how to lose weight 2 or 3 weeks in a row. |

| | Jetta, it's great that you're starting to feel the effects of excersing!
Please DON'T go by your scale! Your body weight is going to fluctuate daily due to water retention and it can fluctuate 2-4 pounds per day! If you're eating properly and working out, you have nothing to worry about.
Ciconne is right, you will GAIN weight as you build muscle, it's a good thing (lean muscle increases your metabolism), rely on what you see in the mirror and how your clothes fit, or just understand your body weight may vary a few pounds day-to-day. If you are going to use the scale as a milestone, I suggest using a calender to track your weigh-ins and make sure you weigh yourself at the same time at each weigh-in session. On average, my weight varies by 3 pounds when I weigh myself in the morning, vs weighing myself at night and it's nothing but water weight.
As long as you're taking in LESS calories than you're expending, then you have nothing to worry about. Keep with it, and you'll start to notice it when you look in the mirror and when you put on your clothes!
Keep us posted! |

| | | Don't get discouraged.
Although it's unlikely that you gained muscle, it's also very unlikely that you gained fat. When first starting an exercise routine, you often retain water in your muscle tissue due to soreness. Eating a lot of salt, the time of day, the time in your cycle, etc, can all cause your weight to fluctuate as much as 5 pounds-- all with no change in your lean & fat mass.
Look at the trend of your weight-- I can guarantee that if you follow your WW plan & exercise, the trend will generally be downward (barring some kind of metabolic disorder). But it probably won't be linear-- there may be some random scale jumps in there. Don't forget the big picture- you're making some awesome changes in your life, and they will have positive results!

| | you'll get there. It just may take a little while. and that's ok! My sister-in-law is on ww and she got a slow start too. after a while though she started losing a little each week. but the other ladies are correct, weight will fluctuate and keep in mind too that muscle weighs more than fat and takes up less space! so it's possible as you are working out more than before that you are currently losing inches while maintaining your previous weight. Honestly, a scale doesn't mean much. what is important is how you feel and how you feel about yourself!

| | | ^what everyone says here, and if you want a better meter of your progress, go by your body fat percentage, they should be able to test ti there, or get one of those fance scales that does it for you, it can also be off, but what you do is measure a everyday, keep a log, enter it into excel, and then make a graph, and the overall trend should go down!

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Ok the general rule for WW is to only weigh yourself ONCE a week. Do I follow this rule HELL NO
However, it's a good rule because your body weight fluctuates alot during the day. Now the comment this lady says is ridiculous. In the long run the more you exercise the better you are. You will tone and not have loose skin all over the place. Keep exercising and you will see that the number on the scale will catch up. I don't know how much weight you have to lose. But when I started I had 80+lbs to lose so I did mostly cardio and then I slowly worked in weight training. It's so important to get that cardio in, in the beginning. You are doing fine and the worse thing you can ever do is give up. TRUST ME...I lost 72lbs in a year or so... YOU CAN DO IT!!! |

| | | thanks for the advice frisky--i definately want to start eating more fruits.
how do you know if something is high in salt--look at the sodium or see if salt is one of the first ingredients?
you are definately an inspiration Adis--i have 20-25 lbs to lose. did you exercise until you hit a certain # of calories/miles and how many did you do on average?
i am pretty out of shape so i have been working out until i burn approx. 300-350 cals. and i have no clue if thats a lot. i dont really understand the logic that you wont lose weight until you burn more cals than you put in through food...that would mean that i would have to work off 1500 cals a day? |

| | | Salt can be disguised in many ways, sodium content is a good indicator, also look for chemical names of salts in the ingredients.
And exercise helps, it is dioscouraging at first, but I know it works, I lost 40 in 40 months, you can do it jetta!

I was alot heavier so any exercise I did burned alot more calories than now. Now I run for 2.5 miles in 30 min. I burn about 250 calories, it feels like it should be more but it's b/c my weight has decreased that it's less. You do not have to burn 1500 calories a day in order to lose weight. You have to burn 3500 calories a week to lose one pound for most people. It's true the more calories you burn as opposed to take in will def. help in the weightloss. This website is really good http://www.healthstatus.com/cgi-bin/calc/calculator.cgi
There you can calculate how much time it takes to lose one pound. Let me know if you have any other ??? |

| | | It's roughly 3500 calories to burn one ound of fat. Your body takes a certian amount to sustain, depends on lots of things, mine takes about 1800 -2000 to sustain, and If I cut back to 1200 a day, I can lose about 3 lbs a week. But it's easy for me to lose weight, meaning easy to gain it back tho.
Be semi glad your body is resisting, you wont drop it super fast, and your body will adapt to your weightloss and keep it longer and easier!

| | haha, that calculator tells you how many calories you burn reading, having sex (foreplay & intercourse), sleeping, SHOPPING, showering, brushing teeth, etc. pretty cool i found the info accurate as far as how many cals i burn running, but how do you burn 154 cals reading for 2 hours? |

I am trying to loose a bit of weight in the next few weeks before i go on my big trip but i just got sick which means i am not allowed to go to the gym | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
