| | | I for one prefer all natural. The least amount of things on my body, the better, in my opinion. A few hours at the pool each week keeps me as brown as can be. |

| | | I think these kind of tanners are a good idea, but you've got to make sure they don't look odd on your skin. Even being in the sun just a little, getting a tan, is NOT a good idea. I tan easily, but I don't like to, because I know too many kids my age from school with skin cancer, and some who didn't even tan that much at all (and never in a bed). I just 1000% don't approve of tanning, whether it be natural or in a bed.

| | | sorry to be the preacher here but like I know a lady with skin cancer on the bottom of her FEET. She always wore sunscreen but, alas, the bottom of her feet never got it and she ended up with malignant melanoma.

| | | I'm right with you, Missmk, I had skin cancer with 27, never tanned much. I avoid the sun now. Tanning means sun damage, no burning needed.

| | | getting sun is not a bad thing. Your body uses the sun to help it produce some vitamins. When it becomes bad is excessive amounts of sun. 10-15 min a day is beneficial to the body.

You're thinking of vit.d, and that's a very complicated topic. Vitamin d deficiency
is very common, and d in milk doesn't help. If you google, you find a lot of info on this. Sun exposure is not the key in avoiding it, taking supplements is.

| | | Everyone has to go outside sometime. Whats hard on your body is if you get a sun burn as it is what is linked to permanent damage. |

Any form of tan is sun damage. That's what everybody should be aware of. Tan= sun damage= premature skin aging/ possibly skin cancer.
Lots of info on this have been published in the US especially this year (new skin cancer highs being the reason for this).

| | New info on vit.d if anyone's interested:

REVIEW ARTICLE
Estimation of optimal serum concentrations of 25-hydroxyvitamin D for multiple health outcomes
Heike A Bischoff-Ferrari, Edward Giovannucci, Walter C Willett, Thomas Dietrich and Bess Dawson-Hughes
free full paper http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/full/84/1/18
"On the basis of this review, we suggest that, for bone health in younger adults and all outcomes in older adults, including antifracture efficacy, lower-extremity strength, dental health, and colorectal cancer prevention, an increase in the current recommended intake of vitamin D may be warranted. To bring concentrations in ≥50% of the population up to 75 nmol vitamin D/L, we recommend that intakes for adults should be ≥1000 IU vitamin D/d in all racial-ethnic groups. Given the low cost, the safety, and the demonstrated benefit of higher 25(OH)D concentrations, vitamin D supplementation should become a public health priority to combat these common and costly chronic diseases."

| | | whether you burn or not is not the issue, it's the UV rays. That's why tanning beds are so dangerous. Even though a lot of people don't burn in them, the UV rays they give off are so concentrated that it's almost like having the sun next to your body. Bad bad bad!! Burning is not the issue. Obviously, some tan is kind of unavoidable, you're going to go to the lake and accidently forget to reapply your sunscreen at some point, but it's not good. Always try to remember!!
