| | | Uncomfortable and embarassed! I have an annoying situation. I went to visit my parents in florida for christmas. Knowing I would sport a bikini during that visit, I got very aggressive with my razor in the bikini area. A couple months ago I had a seriously acute ingrown hair become infected in a very "delicate" area. I went to the doctor and confirmed it was, indeed, an ingrown hair. The doc told me to do hot compresses and neosporin. It appeared to go away, but I did feel a small underlying bump. It has now come back and is infected again. It is very uncomfortable so I wanted to see if anyone has encountered a similar situation and has advice. I have an appointment with my doc on monday, but in the meantime I am so uncomfortable and need to be intimate (trying to get pg) and wonder if that will perpetuate the problem... HELP |

| | I get them sometimes after I get waxed...
To help avoid them, I was w/ a scrubby glove.
When I do get one, I actually dig it out w/ a needle.... , and then put neosporin on it. Sometimes that is theonly way to get it for sure...

| | | if u can keep it away from friction u should be ok.. (i know.. kinda hard)
that bump that was left was probabley infection that didn't come out.
the doctor might need to lance it...
as long as u can stand the pain i'd say go for it just because i know how important it can be for some people to get pregnant... body fluids shouldnt hurt it either... |

| | | I've had ingrown hairs that cause an unbearable shooting pain down my leg from the bikini area...i don't see how something like that can hurt so badly. Most of the time, they are just a bit sore. I usually end up using a needle. |

| | | yeah, i used to get them under my arms until i got laser hair removal and they were sooooo annoying and painful. I would always dig them out too. But i dont think that is the best idea because if you are not careful, it could get really infected by poking that needle around in there. |

| | | I doubt that sex will affect it at all, and I doubt your SO will really care. It's definitely embarrassing in public, but I mean, part of the reason you shave is probably for your SO's enjoyment, right?
I get really bad ingrowns from waxing so I had to switch to shaving. It's really annoying to get them. It makes me want to jump on the laser bandwagon but I'm a student and can't afford it. |

| | | I usually pop mine like a zit too. I've had them get pretty big and uncomfortable before. You might still have a hair in there and that's why it's swelling up and getting infected again. If it was me, I'd start digging at it again, but I am in the medical profession and we're bad at going to the doctor. Since you have an appointment, I'd keep it and see what they say. If it's really infected, they might just put you on some antibiotics.
I've never had a problem with having sex and having them, as long as it doesn't get pushed on or bumped. I know how uncomfortable they can be.
I've been waxing for years, and I used to have a terrible time with ingrown hairs. I found this stuff called No Bump at Sally's Beauty Supply. It's in a clear green bottle and you find it in the hair removal section. You just put it on the area for a few days before and after you shave/wax and I don't have any problems with ingrown hairs anymore. It smells kind of funny, but it works. |

| | | Antoher popper here, but then I always grab a pair of tweezers and pull the hair out. Funny part is, you'd expect it to feel likeyou're ripping out hair and kinda sting, but i feels good to get that hair out!

| | | Before I went to bed last night I did a warm compress and it came to a head and I was able to drain it, ewww. I can't get at the hair yet because it is still swollen. The issue with sex is that it is in a totally unavoidable spot and it hurt bad. It feels so much better today and I will do more warm compress till I get the little fucker out! Thanks for all your help! |

| | | oh damn i caught a glimpse of this thread lol and it reminded me..
if u apply antiperspirant directley to the shaved or waxed area it will prevent ingrowns and bumps...
the aluminum zirconium shrinks ur pores... dove deoderant/antiperspirant is the best imo because it wont leave u with that dried out feeling and it washes off the easiest
theres also this type of ointment my grandma used to use to draw things out of cuts and splinters it works well for ingrowns too.. damnit i cant remember whats all in it but i know it's homemade... i'll have to call my mom |

I have a little jar called EPSAL OINTMENT, here's the description: A specially suspended epsom salts drawing ointment is recommended for external application to draw foreign substances from below the surface of the skin, as for example, a sliver of wood or a stinger from a bee bite. But I remember seeing the catalog description talking about removal of blackheads and ingrown hairs
In any case, the active ingredient is EPSOM SALT! |

It really blocks pores- which can lead to cysts even if you don't shave/ wax. If you close the hair in, it will of course be trapped. Yuck. Baaaad idea.
I can't use aluminum at all. I had to take antibiotics a few times, because it gave me cysts.

| | | ^ really? wow! do u have to use special antiperspirants? i think they make some with titanium? instead of aluminum... it's one of those metals i forget
i read that in cosmo or glamour a couple years ago... exotic dancers said they apply non scented deoderant/ antiperspirant right after shaving etc and it keeps them from getting bumps and ingrowns
i do it all the time and swear by it... altho i guess if one would be sensitive to it then it would be a bad idea.... i only apply it to the sides of my legs after doing my bikini area... thats the only place i would get irritation
and libby- yes epsom salts does work well... but i find that baking soda works even better. if u make a paste with that, honey and apple cider vinegar it will dry and purge the pores
sometimes different herbs/ essential oils can be added fo soothing and cleansing benefits |

| | I use deodorants without aluminum.
Antiperspirants are supposedly not good anyway (because they block sweat from getting out).
