Re: tampon brands

Okay, my local Costco carries playtex gentle glide so I decided to get it...figured, good price, plus it has a plastic applicator (LOTS more comfy than cardboard)...BUT, I've discovered this brand SUCKS. I have the super version, and I have to change it every couple of hrs!

For Kotex supers, I have the luxury of changing it at least every 4 hrs.

So, what are gd tampon brands (w/plastic applicators) y'all use?

Goodness, I'm glad I'm not the only one! I thought that there was something wrong with me (well, I do have PCOS.) I have to wear pantyliners along with the tampon. So it has to be Playtex's fault It just doesn't absorb as well.

Back when I was a poor student, I bought a box from Dollar Tree that worked okay. I wish I knew of a better brand. I tried that cup/diaphragm thingie about 10 years ago, but it didn't work for me....

I love my tampax! I prefer the cardboard aplicators though, because I can just flush them.

I was wondering about those Tampax Pearls...seen advertisements and wondered if they were worth the extra $ (since this particular style seems to cost more than the other versions Tampax had out). Based on ur recommendations, I will buy a box. Thx! And, anyone else w/their opinions, pls. chime in!!!

Oh, and I can sympathize w/the pantyliner remark...I've had to do that w/my Playtex Gentle Glides!!! (but not w/my Kotex). IMO, there's something seriously weird w/how that company makes their tampons!

Classic tampax - I like the flushable applicator.
Man, I thought I was the only one who had to wear a pantyliner w/a super - it's always right in the middle of my period too.

I use Playtex Gentle Glides. They work well for me. Might try Tampax Pearls sometime, though.

i used to use playtex gentle glilde slim fits, but they don't make them anymore! i tried the regular gentle glides, and found those to be okay, and am currently using the tampax pearls. i'm kind of indifferent, because it seems like no matter what brand i use, i always have to have a liner just in case.

I guess I may be the only one......but I don't like tampons. I hate the way it feels when you pull it out.....kinda hurts. So I just use pads. But if I was wearing something that I needed to wear a thong (for no pantylines)....then I force myself to use a tampon.....but I am uncomfortable all day long.

^that generally means you aren't using the right absorbency - if you flow through in less than 4 hours it's too light absorbenc, if it hurts to take it out after 6-8 hours, the absorbency is too high.

Ilike OB because they are compact, and they have a nice covering on them that makes insertion so much easier - even than most platic/cardboard applicators. On top of that, every single time I use and applicator I manage to pinch the hell out of my labia at least thrice a period, and I get pretty sick of pinched labia.

It doesn't hurt to insert. But I can feel it once it is in and then it feels weird/hurts when I take it out. I haven't had a real period since my daughter was born 7 months ago (except the normal 6 weeks of bleeding after she was born.....but they don't recommend a tampon anyway after birth). So I have been to the gyno and everything after she was born and everything is fine.

I agree, maybe I should try a "less flow" tampon. When I do get my period again. This happened after my son was born too......I only got my period about 2 times in his first year....then it went back to normal.

def give it a shot -- i had the same issue for a while until i figured it out

edit part of the weirdess may be your cervix may still be a little swollen and low, try pelvic floor exercises to get it back inplace, that will make some of the akward feeling in there go away.

Tampax for sure does these "Slender Regular" tampons that are even skinnier and smaller than the regular ones. They're pink on the package, check them out. I love them.

I guess I'm the minority here. I gave up tampons about 6 months ago, and pads too. I switched to Insteads (the disposable cup) and then after a month of that I bought a Diva Cup . If someone here totally does look it up, don't get squicked out. (heh I said squicked) Joking aside. It's totally eco-friendly, not messy at all, and pays for itself in like 3 cycles. Plus they are re-usuable for up to 10 years AND it's reduced my cramps to almost nothing (and I was having REALLY bad ones), and I only have to change it like once every 8 hours and there is no risk of TSS associated with it. As usual, if anyone DOES check it out and has any questions let me know. I'd be happy to answer them for you.
