| | | I don't know when to expect my period ok, almost a month ago i went to my OB/GYN to get my second cervical cancer shot and they messed up and injected the depo-provera shot into me instead. i was already on birth control pills, but i stopped taking them once i realized what she shot into me after i got the receipt. it's now a week and a half past the time i'm supposed to get my period, and i've been getting all the symptoms for a week, like the bloating and cramps, but still no period. does anyone know how much this shot throws off my cycle? i have a terrifying fear of randomly starting my period in the middle of class and having it leak through. has anyone had this shot before? any advice? thanks!

| | | Wow! That is a pretty bad mix up! Call your doctor and ask him since his nurse is the one who screwed it up!!

| | | Depo can make your period go away completely, just use pantyliners for the next week or so.

| | | With Depo you usually won't get your period at all. Irregular spotting is what you should expect. |

| | | Agreed. The depo can really screw with your system. Make pantyliners your friend for the next little while and go and see your doc if you are feeling like symptoms are worsening. |

| | | I tried Depo once after hearing that it makes your period go away completely. Well, I got the opposite. I basically had a light period for three months straight. Hope that doesn't happen with you! I think most girls just don't have a period at all. |

| | I don't understand how that mistake could've been made. That's awful.
But yeah, with depo you get random spotting instead of a period, so pantyliners for the next 9 weeks or so |

| | | ya my mom was pretty pissed, i'm pretty sure she's filing a lawsuit against them. i think they got confused bc i went for my first time two months before for the birth control pill, and they suggested getting the cancer shot as well so i did. i think the nurse who gave me the shot just glanced at my charts and figured i was there for a birth control shot. she was an idiot, i looked at the shot she was injecting in me and made a weird face bc i didn't remember the stuff being white, and she was like "oh don't be scared, you've done this before. this is your second time, right?" i figured she knew what she was talking about, but i guess not.

| | | OMG!!! I really hope you go back to the doctor and get this worked out! What a dumb ass!
I had a good friend over 8 years ago taking Ortho & was having problems with it, she went to the doctor to see about getting off that & on something else. They gave her a Depo shot but they were suppose to wait a cycle before doing that. That totally messed up her hormones for a long time. Your hormones play a big role in how you feel emotionally & that just messed her up. So far everything has ended up ok, took her over 6 years to have another baby. She quit bc after that experience! I've only done bc once in my life & that was the depo, I totally hated it! |

| | I was on depo.. gave me light spotting for 3 months too, but some people don't get bleeding while on it for the whole 3 months. My body adapted pretty quickly back to my normal cycle after I discontinued the shot though.
The greatest side effect of depo was lack of libido. I think that's what makes depo so effective - you cannot get pregnant if you don't even want to have sex! That's the drug they give to male sex offenders to "chemically castrate" them btw.
It also made me feel bloated and gave me a breakout.
Definitely get your mom to sue. The nurse is supposed to check 3 times before she gives you the drug. In this case she very obviously didn't even look at your medical record once before injecting you with the drug. She + her employer will be liable for neligence. |

| | | ^^^^ OMG I can so relate! I took the depo shot once and I had spotting everyday for 3 months straight!
And before, I used to be a sex feen with my boyfriend, seriously. I'd want and get it 3 times a day, haha. However, with that shot, everything went down. It's been over a year and my sex drive is still shot to the ground. |

| | | Marissa, I just switched to the shot during my last period. It went away early, and there's been nothing since.

| | | you sure they didn't just make a mistake on your receipt? Could have happened too. But yes I agree with the other posters often after you receive a depo shot your period will stop. They even tell you this when you get the shot. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
