Cleansing/detox diet

Like lots of you, I'm using the NY as an excuse to make some healthy changes in my life. One big thing is that I want to get rid of the refined sugar & flour and chemical sweeteners in my diet.
Does anyone have a cleansing diet that they recommend? I generally just try to get lots of water, lean protein, veggies, legumes, and small amounts of brown rice & steel-cut oats.
In addition, I'll be taking some herbal cleansing products recommended by a certain POOHgirl.
Anything else I should definitely consume or avoid consuming? The hardest things for me will be avoiding coffee, splenda, and wine.
Who else is doing a cleanse?
I was going to do a 3-day fast prior to New Year's, but just got the flu and thought it wouldn't be smart. I might fast Jan 1-3 if I'm feeling any better.

Fasting when you are sick is actually an excellent idea. 80% of your bodies function(energy) is used for digestion. Stop eating and you free up all that energy for healing your body. I would drink some fresh squeezed orange juice mixed with pure water(for the potassium needed when fasting) and drink 'til your hearts content. You can even chew on the orange slices and spit out the pulp if you don't feel like juicing. Add a little lick of sea salt with every glass of water you drink to make sure the kidenys are functioning properly and don't forget to poop at least once a day while fasting. I also recommend the extra cheap $5.95 book By Arnold Ehret called Rational Fasting before ever doing a real fast, longer then 3 days. It will help you through the rough times. I have a link somewhere to donwload it for free, let me look around.

Your diet sounds really good. You can replace the spenda with stevia, a natural sugar or Xylitol available at health food stores. I like the xylitol better then the stevia, it's sugary but with a coolness to it. Nice in coffee and tea. Switch to decaf coffee if you must. Coffee does have it's good points, so they say (and I tell myself so I can enjoy the ocasional cup)

I cut out sugar, dairy, bread(pasta) products and something else, can't remember, for 3 weeks last year, I ate vegetables and rice and chicken(all organic), did veggie juices, wheatgrass, cleansing pills and a ton of water. It wasn't bad, I'm underweight as it is, so fasting completely would be very bad.

I'd do the six week "Eat to Live" plan by Dr.Fuhrman (and if you can, carry on indefinitely of course). It's based on the studies from "The China Study" and works really great. If you google him, you'll get to his website- and the book's available in paperback. It has the whole six week plan in it. You'll loose pretty fast after a few weeks- but as you're detoxing with it, too, your skin might get pretty bad for a couple of weeks (it's purging some cr*p out then...Gross).
