| | | yeah, you're going to have a dye injected or swallowed, and they'll use the scan to see where the dye settles and where it goes through. They use it a lot to diagnose intestinal problems, or to fing clots and blockages in the blood flow.

oui oui. you lie on a table that slides into the machine, and the machine takes x-ray pictures from different angles, to produce an image. i'm pretty sure that you will have to have the dye injected, which will allow for contrast between the different organs and tissues in the image. |

um, I cannot say depending on WHERE you are going for this procedure, BUT I will say its usually swallowed.....its about a liter of chalky tasting shit, but they do have orange flavored and you have to drink it within so much time alotted, and they allow around 15-30 minutes to get through the system to be scanned.
Okay Normally Abdominal(since I do not know WHAT you are getting one for), and some RENAL scans require drinkable contrast...NOT injectible....injectible is usually for veins/flow.....( I think of it as , anything that moves via a tube in your body needs injection).......but depends on each individual and reason for procedure
Those are for specific look ats....and heart and Neuro
But again*sighs* since I have no idea what you are going for(none of my beeswax either), I would push for the yummy orange flavored chalk

| | Joan, you're gonna be fine.....I just hope you're not claustrophobic (sp?) and the dye might feel a little cold (you'll understand what I mean, its really hard to explain)
Have fun! (I mean that in the nicest, most pre-med-student-ish way) |

| | | I've had upteen CT scans done with contrast (I am a cancer patient in remission). They are no biggie - don't be scared. The tube is wide & open - I only get clastrophobic with MRI's which is a more narrow tube. The injectable contrast (dye) feels warm & tingley when it enters your body. Seriously - it won't be bad at all. It's quick too. If you have to drink contrast too (they are two different types of contrast), ask them for the orange flavor if they have it and just gulp it down fast. What are you having it done for if you don't mind me asking? Ask questions if you have any - like I said - I've had sooo many of these done - I've had them every 6 months for the last 5 years. |

| | Well, I just finished my first 10oz of creamy brew....chilled and drunk with a straw Its thick and disgusting, thankfully they suggested the straw, because if I was tasting this stuff, I dont think I could finish it.. and I have....2 more doses of 10 oz each before the test..eeewww. I'll be back...thanks all for your support and good wishes!

| | | I hope you are okay....I've had one done before and the worst part was drinking the nasty crap. I had to drink it so cold that I could kind of chug it, and I was really afraid I was going to hurl.
The scan itself was not traumatic at all.
Hope everything turns out to be fine...

| | OK, friends the update:
They called me this morning, exactly ONE HOUR before I had to drink the second 10 oz...which was to be followed by the third 10 oz an hour and a half after....rescheduled me...for Tuesday. The machine was broken....so while I wasted drinking 10 oz last night, thankfully it was not after I had polished off ANOTHER 10 oz....
SO, same thing...different day. I have to go pick up another bottle to replace what I already drank, and repeat Monday night for Tuesday.

| | I just saw this thread today. Aawwee...that sux that you have to drink the dye again. Just use the straw again and put the tip at the back of your tongue without gagging. You won't taste it as much
