the curious incident of the dog in the night-time

by mark haddon

A very readable book about a troubled boy determined to discover who killed his neighbor's dog. I really enjoyed it and managed to finish it in about 2 days. The first part was a quick read, but it got a little bit draggy half way through the book.

I agree...but I think she does a great job sustaining interest when her narrator is autistic, and therefore not great at social interaction. At the school where I used to teach there was a autistic student and the narrator reminded me a lot of him.

^ Definitely agree. I liked the train station part when he is waiting and trying to figure out what train to get on. The author was really good at getting inside the narrator's mind. I didn't like that the dad was made out to be such a bad guy at the end of the book. The first half of the book he was very understanding and patient and then you find out. Seemed out of character to me.

It is an intriguing reversal of character...maybe a little too much. I had to tell you that I love the video in your sig. I have days where I feel like BOTH of those penguins!

I loved this book

I read it for English Lit AP and it was unique, interesting, and strong in how it was delivered.

I just joined the alumnae board at my high school, and we are reading this book for a "one book one school" program (I had not heard of it until last week at the meeting but I guess all students are required to read it and everyone affiliated with the school is encouraged to), and then they are having discussions and lectures and other events revolved around the book. I haven't picked it up yet but I am glad it got some good reviews on here...I'll be sure to post my review after I read it!

I haven't read the book but based from the comments I've read on this thread, it seems to be a lovely story. Interesting. I'll have to look for a copy of this book. I'll post again once I've found and read the story. =)

I recently read it and I thought it was pretty good. I thought it was sad about the boy's seemingly lack of feelings towards his parents

I had to read this book my freshman year of college (2005 seems like forever ago!!). I loved the book, but whenever I see it, the first thing I remember was a girl in the class saying

I'm really impressed that someone who's obviously that retarded was able to write a book so well all by himself.
Apparently not everyone knows the difference between first-person and a autobiography.

I got this book as a birthday gift a few years ago. It's a good book, I really enjoyed reading it!

This is not a genre I usually read. My Mother suggested it to me so I read. I really enjoyed and loved talking with my Mother about it
