Angelina Jolie to play Kay Scarpetta in Patricia Cornwell's series

Bad Guys, Beware! Angelina Jolie's on the Case - E! Online

Not sure what to think. I love this series and always thought it'd be great on the big screen, but Jolie just does not 'fit' as Scarpetta. She's older, italian and blonde. I like Angelina Jolie, I just don't see her in this role

thoughts???

that wouldn't make sense at all. She's a great acress, but I think someone like Helen Mirren would be a great Scarpetta.

unless the producers are planning on making Scarpetta super young or something...

Wow, that's not at all what I pictured... I guess I'll give it a chance, but I definitely didn't picture Angelina.

I don't see Jolie either, but Helen Mirren is almost 65, I don't know if we know Scarpetta's age for sure, but I didn't picture her that old either. I think someone in the middle of these two would be good. I definitely didn't see her as the glamorous Jolie type.

I love that character too. But, I think Helen Mirren is too old too. And definately not Angelina. I'm thinking someone dark, 35ish, smart and not as overtly sexy...maybe Ashley Judd? Or Jennifer Connelly?

I read on another board, someone thought of Diane Lane.

I just always thought of Scarpetta as small, petite, blonde, has a subdued sexiness to her, but also a 'world wariness' if that makes sense. She's seen a lot of bad stuff and while it doesn't necessarily faze here anymore, but she still absorbs some of it.

I'm still trying to wrap my mind around it. I guess the movies are NOT going to be based a a specific book? so I guess that leaves a lot of wiggle room as far as where they take her character.

I find it so disappointing though to have an actor star as a certain character that I thought DID NOT fit the bill. Like Tom Hanks in Da Vinci Code. I like Tom, but he should NEVER have played Robert Langdon... I don't even want to see Angels & Demons, which was a MUCH better book than Da Vinci Code, imho.

^I SO agree about Tom Hanks. I think he is a great actor but definately not who I pictured as Robert Langdon. I'm not sure who should have had that role though.

I thought Josh Lucas would have been perfect. Think A Beautiful Mind and GLory Road. He can appear Scholarly, but still Sexy at the same time. I think he would have been so perfect for that role, but I guess Tom wanted it real bad.
