Vitamin C: Does brand matter?

I'm in the market for a good Vitamin C serum or moisturizer, but don't know if there's a specific brand I should look into...or if it really matters

hi there

i learned pretty much everything i know from Jen and Charla in this thread

it is real important that your C serum be high quality and Ph stable (i am sure i am not saying this correctly ) so it doesn't oxidize. i have been using skinceuticals AOX 20 for the past year. i get the sample sizes, about 6 of them for $25-$30 on ebay. i keep them in the fridge except for the one that i have open and am using, the 6 pack lasts me about 4 months.

i use to use skinmedica but for some reason it made my neck and chest get little red bumps all over loved it on my face though

another good C link

your C serum should be put on 20 to 30 minutes before anything else. it is an acid and will be neutralized by other creams or serums.

Thanks I went through that thread the other day and checked out the links also...that's a whole-lotta information

I appreciate your personal take, that's exactly what I'm looking for! My skin leans toward the sensitive side since I'm taking a retinoid so I may give the skinceuticals a try also

Did you start out on the 20% or did you step your way up to that? I'm wondering if I should do the 10 or 15% first.

it is a lot of info but a lot of really good info i really should read through it again, it has been awhile and it is a great thread

i'm pretty sure you are suppose to ramp up with the C percentage? i started with the skinmedica 10% which went very easily, it is a nice cream consistency. then when i went to the skinmedica 15% which is when i got the bumps so i tried the skinceuticals 15 with no problem (the texture is more like water so it is not as easy to work with) sometimes even now i go back down to the 15 because my skin feels a bit sensitive, but 95% of the time i use the 20

i just went to a family reunion, there were about 60 of us and i haven't seen them in a year, and i got soooo many compliments on my skin it was awesome so something is working

i am sooooo glad you brought that up i almost edited my last post but held back from giving you my "make sure you are using a great physical sunscreen" rant

this is my favorite right now by hydropeptide, i haven't used it for a summer yet though so i am not positive about the results but i always wear a hat so but it has green tea and blueberries, packed full of antioxidants and i love the consistency i never use foundation and it evens out my skin tone and gives that lightly dewy look with zero whitish cast. all i add is a little cream blush and some mascara i just got some of this by perricone and for the past couple of days have been mixing a little of it to the hydropeptide for just a hint of color for summer, i like it

i tried the Misha perfect cover, wanted to love it because the ingredients are wonderful, but it is just to thick and pasty for me

la roche posay is a great sunscreen (i don't know anything about the Bioderma) but both are a chemical sunscreen. just depends on if you want chemicals on your face and in your bloodstream i am totally against chemical sunscreens because my doctors are convinced that it was a free radical reaction of my chemical sunscreen (lancome eminance it had avenobenzene and octinoxate and i used it faithfully for 15 years ) that caused my melanoma so i just don't risk it anymore

That's a good thing to consider while I'm trying to decide. Do you know what the difference is between the SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic & The SkinCeuticals AOX?

i really don't know the difference i think i went with the AOX because Jen said it was better? and my doc said that Vit E can actually promote, not prevent scarring. if you find out, please share

Do you use the same SS for face & body? I'm not sure if I should get one specifically for face and one specifically for body.

i would get different ones, i am willing to spend that much on my face and neck and chest, but not my arms and legs

i use "tropical sands spf 30" as my main body sunsceen and i use "green screen spf 22" a little pricey but i don't use much of it, the green screen is tinted so again, i mix the two you have to rub it on fast and thorough or it streaks and leaves patches or balls up. kinda a learning experience but i have it down now
