Birchbox.com....Anyone have any experience?

Has anyone tried this before? It sounds/looks like a kind of cool way to try samples of products every month. $10 per month

Each box will span beauty categories and deliver exciting products that fit into both your day-to-day routine, and into those days when you want to turn up the drama a notch."

I think it's always a hit or a miss every month.. that's why I haven't tried it out yet, I'm scared I'll get a box of stuff I hate

I remember seeing a similar site that I thought about joining but know I can't remember the name of it. I will also check back to see how you like it, Shaina!

After watching countless "haul" videos on Youtube, I think I may take the plunge. But first, I want to hear about yours Shaina!

I had this for only 4 months and canceled it. Out of the 4 boxes, I used only a few products. One month I gave everything away or threw it away because it sucked or I couldn't stand the scent/fragrance of the things. I also watched YouTube hauls and would find myself getting disappointed about the things I received after seeing other people getting things (for the same month) that I would have rather had instead.

You do fill out a questionnaire/preference type thing so they can fill your box with things more tailored to you but I honestly don't know how much emphasis is put on that since I got some stuff that really wasn't for my skin type.

Good Luck - it's super fun to get the box every month and be surprised by it, but as far as products - meh. I wish that they had certain things you could select from each month so that you were actually getting products that you want every month.

Ohhh! I didn't realize that everyone's was different. Hmm, that kind of makes me reconsider...I wouldn't want a bunch of crap I hated!

I got my August today and it was alright. I got some products i'd be happy to try, but it was less exciting when everything was so small.

We'll see if i continue!

Mind sharing what kind of things they send you?

I think the concept is fun but I don't need to waste money or space on things that I'll just chuck in a drawer, or the trash.

I got 4 samples, all super small and kinda made it seem not worth it. I think i may cancel.

2 products i already had (smashbox primer and ouidad gel) and 2 that i'm not really interested in (face wash and some shave gel).

Mostly items i get from sephora samples for free.

Well that's super disappointing. I wonder how all of these people on Youtube get such awesome hauls?! I hope mine isn't disappointing.

I just got mine a couple of days ago...really disappointed. Everything was really small. I got mascara, a lip conditioner, a bracelet (for their anniversary), mascara guard thing so you don't gets clumps and mascara on your eye or something, and those pre-done nail things, oh and a perfume sample. not impressed. I probably will cancel too.

Just wanted to do a little update. I decided not to cancel my subscription and held out through this month.

The things that I initially thought were really cool was the fact that you filled out a beauty profile, which from my understanding, was supposed to dictate the types of samples you received. For example, I put that I have oily skin, I like to spend money on skin care vs. make up and perfumes, I prefer natural colors, and my skin color is olive. The promise of birchbox is that you will be receiving 'high-end' deluxe samples, which you can rate online for beauty points and use them toward full-size products or just buy the full-size products on their website.

Now for my review. It was nice being able to get excited for a little something in the mail each month that you had no idea what would be inside, I think this is the reason I stayed around for a lot longer than I should have. Every box is nicely wrapped and contains anywhere from about 4-7 samples, I think. I have received everything from a full-size Zoya nail polish, Hollywood tape, a piece of Cayenne chocolate (), and samples of perfumes including Kate Spade Twirl and a bunch of random crap I've never heard of. The best product I have ever got was Benefit's Porefessional

I would never consider any of the sample sized to be 'deluxe' and I actually think quite of few of them were a little old. I received two primers that were so watery and oily, it seemed like they were comparable to a primer that's been laying around for a few years. Never once did my Birchbox follow my beauty profile. I always received stuff in weird colors. Since when did "I prefer neutrals" equal hot pink lip gloss, bright metallic blue nail polish and leopard print nail stickies? Another thing I really hated is a lot of the products were weird brands that I have never heard of OR weird products that you were like WTF do I do with this? For example, I got a sample of this Tocca body polish. If I used it in the shower it became sticky, if I used it outside the shower it made my skin oily and weird? Or tubular mascara that was an epic fail.

Anyway, yes it is only $10.00, but you are better off getting samples at Sephora that you actually might like.

there's actually another thing like this called My Glam. I think it's similar because it asks for your skin type and such, but I think people generally get the same stuff, just different colours based on what you like etc? I don't really know, I'd love to do it but it's for US customers only haha

Thanks for the update, Cielo! Doesn't sound so great.

There is another one called Test Tube from New Beauty that I considered trying a while back. I haven't done my reasearch, though.

Hm, makes me want to check out some of those other services. But honestly, if it's anything like BB, I want no part. That is how disappointed I was.

Off topic, has anyone ever tried cayenne chocolate? SO weird. But, I kind of liked it.

Yeah, it was like super creamy and tasted just like regular chocolate. Then a major kick hits the back of your throat, but it was just the right amount of spice. It's like a dieters BFF, because you can eat just one small piece and be completely satisfied. My cousin just got back from Italy and bought home a bunch of Italian chocolates. She had one cayenne/jalepeno bar and that was nasty. I'm not sure if it was just that way the place made it but it had huge weird chunks of sugar and it wasn't creamy.

WTH is with me lately, so off topic! From BB to chocolate. Oh well, keeps AF interesting, right?

There's a new program like this called MyGlam.. started by Michelle Phan, Andrea's Choice, etc. They just started and sent out a December bag and it was filled with awesome stuff! UD deluxe sample size primer potion, UD full sized eyeshadow in Sin, NYX lipgloss lipstick hybrid, blotting sheets, and i forget what else.. Totally worth the $10 it costs and more! I signed up after the december bag had been sold out, so I'll be receiving one starting in January. They are completely sold out of subscriptions as of now I think, but they said they'll be opening them up again. Might want to check it out!
