What works best for anti tangles

My youngest has my super fine hair, and now that it's a few inches long he keeps getting really bad mattes/tangles in the back. Is there something I can put in it (other than conditioner) to keep it from doing that? I love the surfer/beach bum look he has going on right now, but don't want to make him miserable with the tangles. When my hair was long I had to braid it to keep it from getting knotted when I slept.

See how much time I spend in the hair stuff section, I didn't even know that existed. I know where the bleach, and the hair glue are... and that's the extent of my hair aisle experiences.

ITA with the detangler spray

Johnson & Johnson used to make a No More Bedhead spray which was da bomb but I think it's been discontinued.

Other brands are L'Oreal (as mentioned) and Suave.

Stacy...Pantene makes a detangler, or they used to. I had a bottle of it about 2 years ago.

We like Citre Shine anti-frizz serum. My son has long straight hair and it tends to get terribly matted where he sleeps on it. All it takes is a super tiny droplet of the stuff and it's so easy to comb through (too much will make it look oily). I like it because it doesn't really get the hair wet, it just kinda frees up the tangles.

Another vote for detangler spray! We have always used Johnson & Johnson's. It is normally with all of the other baby/kids bath products in our Walmart & Target. It's a green bottle.

^ I forgot to mention that!

So Suave Kids, not the adult stuff. You know, in yummy kid appealing scents like watermelon.

I use the Johnson and Johnson No More Tangles Detangling Spray on my guys. It comes in a turquoise/aqua colored spray bottle. Its usually in the baby isle at target and the grocery store.

Johnson'sxxNo More Tangles Detangling Spray | Walgreens

I use it a lot when they wake up from nap and have crazy wonky bed head. When Spencer's hair was longer, it helped revive his slept-on curls too

ETA...
I like this stuff so much that I keep it in the car too...its great for de-static-ing their hair when its time to tkae off their knit hats.

A detangler is the way to go.

A leave-in conditioner/detangler really is your best bet for keeping his hair tangle free. It's what we recommend at my salons. The So Cozy detangler we sell [Mod edit - no free advertising please] So Cozy Detangler & Leave-In Conditioner Fruit Delight 8oz[/url]) has a fruity scent that kids like, which makes the whole process more pleasant. (I hope I'm not being spammy with the link--I just wanted to show you what I'm talking about.)

When he does get tangles, comb them out starting at the bottom, holding the hair right above where you're working so you won't pull on his scalp. Then work your way up each piece of hair an inch at a time until you reach the top.
