Haircut help! Is a pixie too risky??

Hey my wonderful AFer's! So my b'day is next week and my mom and I are going to 5th ave in NYC to get our haircut. I cut my hair short 6 months ago after having hair extensions put in for my brothers wedding. I was planning on growing my hair out again but I am getting the itch to do something drastic. I love the pixie haircut on the right woman and was considering it for me. I need honest opinions, could I pull it off? Or do you all think I am better off growing out my hair. I actually think the pixie cut is very sexy, showing off your next and shoulders, but when I asked my BF if the style was too short for his liking he said yes. I am torn as to what to do cause if it doesn't look good there is no turning back. I just don't want to look like a boy, I want to look trendy and sexy. Here are two pics of me now. The first one was about 3 months ago and the second is me now with slightly longer hair. Honest opinions! I can take it! TIA!!

Me 3 months ago:

Me last week:

And here are three looks I was considering. I really like the first one but my BF said NO

I love the first haircut and I think you would look great with that style!
As for your boyfriend--guys tend to prefer long hair but that's no reason to listen to him. As long as you look good with the new hairstyle, he won't complain. Unless he's just a whiner.
I had short hair back in high school (like the last photo, but spikier) and I did feel the need to wear makeup so I wouldn't feel like a boy, but I don't have delicate facial features.

I agree, the first pic would look amazing on you. I think that you wouldn't look like a boy -- your (very pretty!) facial features are very "girl-ish" to me so I don't think you'd have that problem!

Is that a pic of Shannyn Sossamon? I don't know what your hair is like but I think her hair is slightly wavy and has a lot of body to it (or so I've seen from other photos of her). If you hair is stick straight it might take some work to get it to look like that. I liked some of her haircuts and I have stick straight hair and opted not to get the cut based on what my hairdresser said I'd have to do to style it and make it look like hers...

Pixie cuts only look good on girls with pretty faces (and delicate features), so you could definitely pull it off. Your bf is only saying that now because guys are accustomed to girls with longer hair, but they totally dig girls with super short hair too, as long as they look good

You are so adorable you would look good in so many cuts. It's hard for most to pull off a pixie but you definitely can!

Awwww THANK YOU Everyone! For your compliments and your input! You all have really helped! I am leaning towards doing it.....even if the BF says no! What does he know about fashion anyway?? Thank you!!

Jess- I don't know who that first pic is, I just googled "pixie cut" and it came up . You are very right about the texture of my hair, I didn't even think about that. I do however have naturally wavy hair. I blow-dry it straight or even flat iron it so it just may work with that pixie cut! Thanks for your help!

ITA! You have a beautiful face, so no matter what style you wear, you will look great. I the first picture.

I like the 3 months ago pic and I like the 1st one you are considering. I think it would suit you well (!), I bet your BF would come around.

My hair was down to my butt most of my life, and though most male friends, BFs, etc. said they preferred it that way, I've also had really short hair and people seemed to like that too.

I definitely think you could pull off the shorter hair. But, if it were me, I wouldn't do it. Those super short cuts are cute but require a lot of maintence including frequent trims, daily styling (you generally can't cover up bed-head on a short style like that and they definitely aren't 'wash n go' types of styles), extra make-up to feel feminine (as others have mentioned), and they take forever to grow out. You generally have to go through several awkward stages to get your hair back to shoulder length.

Plus, if your boyfriend doesn't like it, isn't he the one you want to impress anyway? I get wanting to be your own person and all that, but we all want our significant other to find us attractive.

Just my 2 cents.

If you're gonna do it, Jen, then 5th Ave in NYC is definitely the place! This is not a cut you'd get at Cost Cutters . I agree that YOU could definitely pull it off! I love the first picture...and DO NOT like the one of Alyssa Milano. It needs to look effortless like it does in that first one...messy, if you will Maybe some highlights or something to break it up? Or I think your solid dark brown/black hair would be really pretty too.

I think you could make feminine for sure; the cute headbands and clips right now in it would be adorable.

Anyway, I get what Kelly is saying too though...so you'll just have to take it all into consideration. At least you're not battling if you'll look like a boy! You're beautiful and def. won't look like one!

I really like the first pixie pic because it is chunky and random... also i think it looks like the least short of the three .... probably because of how it's styled and how there are longer chunks in the front.

sorry to say but i absolutely hate the other 2 haha. i have a friend who always does the short hair thing, and recently cut her hair like the last pic and IMO it looks so bad. it's way too flat and I think it's something you have to have the right shaped head for.

You are so pretty!!!
I think you have the face for a short cut (pretty and not very wide), and the first one would look great on you.

... that being said, I had a short cut eons ago, and I hated the in-between phases until it grew back (but that's probably because the short cut looked just meh on me, and I could not wait to go back to longer hair I could pull back in a ponnytail).

I like the top cut, it is really cute. I think you could rock it.

I do agree that short hair takes a lot more time to fix. I got a cut similar to #1 and it was definitely not a wash and go style. If you don't mind spending the extra time it take to fix your hair, then you should get it cut.

Also you should consider whether or not your hair will do what the picture looks like. A good stylist should be able to tell you whether it would look similar. If you have fine straight hair I don't think your cut would look like #1.

I vote for the first one too. You have a perfect face shape for the pixie haircut IMHO. I wish I could pull that off.
