Boob job

I am seriously considering getting a boob job and am trying to gather more info. For those of you ladies who have had it done, what was it like? Did recovery suck? How much did it cost? Do you tell your workplace or do you just appear back to work with magically bigger boobs?
Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

There is a couple of "boob" threads somewhere...GD or in this health section maybe? There are some really knowledgable members who have responded there.

telling other people is really a personal decision, if you are going to show up back to work with double D's in a low cut top, than I guess they will know. It's so common, I don't know how much reaction it would really get anyway.

For me, I had mine done 8 years ago now (under the muscle), so I don't know if things have changed, but from my experience the recovery was about 2 full days of sleep/rest and then light activity for about 10 days. After that I could do everything as normal. I opted to purchase a "pain Pack" at the last minute, it is a fanny pack type thing that has low dose pain meds fed thru a tube straight into the incision sight and is removed the following day or two. I didn't need the other prescribed meds. I highly recommend looking into this!

Surgery was on Thurs afternoon and I could have done all my normal activities by Sat, but tried to be a "good patient" and stuck to house cleaning.

I would love to have gone bigger, that really is my only regret, as I was advised to go with a size or two smaller than what I thought would be good. I ended up with 325cc (a decision made by my doc while in mid surgery) and on my small 95lb frame it is about a full B small C. I would recommend also asking if your doc like to over-fill as well as this can make a difference. Mine did not practice this, and I think comparing to all of my friends', I would have preferred this.
My doc was awesome and completly proffessional and was all about a realistic outcome and took my safety very seriously. I had met with about 10 different doctors before deciding on him, and they were all willing to do whatever I wanted, regardless of how it would look now and in the future. I had the director of Cosmetic surgery for our local hosptial willing to go to 430 cc's with no questions asked. Really? I quickly decided maybe they needed to have some input.

Research EVERYTHING! Talk to friends, and think about the future (children, nursing, etc). Good luck!

My experience was exceptional. I had mine done almost 3 years ago. I went in on a Friday morning, the surgery took 45 minutes put in under the muscle. My CS does this rapid recovery procedure: "Recently we have been using a rapid recovery system. Over 90% of our patients exhibit no bruising and their pain is controlled by non-narcotic analgesics. No bandages, drains, or special bras are used. Patients typically can shower, eat regular food, and leave the house the day of surgery. You may lift objects, drive, and resume normal activities within 48 hours of surgery even with implants beneath the muscle. All the sutures are buried underneath the skin and do not require removal.

I went home that day with some Celebrex and took a little nap. The only discomfort I remember was that first day after waking up from my nap, I couldn't sit up out of bed so my mom helped me. I went out to dinner that night with my boyfriend, my chest was a little sore, but no more than say from a work-out. The next day was better and I went out again that night too. I only took the Celebrex for 3 days, I didn't feel like I needed it and I didn't have ANY pain. I felt back to normal within 5 days.

Mine cost about $4500 for saline.

If I had to do it over again, I would have gone a little bigger. The Doc did tell me the biggest complaint of most girls is that after is all said and done they wished they would have sized up. Three years later, I was no exception. He recommended 350cc put in and at first I opted for 300cc because I didn't want to look like a porn star. . But, I decided the day before surgery to meet him in the middle at 325cc. I was a 32A before I had the augmentation, I ended up at a 32D. I said I wanted to be a full C. I can wear a 34C but the band rides up in the back enough to be annoying.

I told my boss I was getting my boobs done, I wanted to go back to work Monday but he MADE me take the day off. I didn't tell many co-workers I was getting them done. I remember talking about my boob job to a co-worker and another overheard and said wow you got a boob job...and this was 6-8 months later. I think when you wear padded bras a lot, well having real boobs in a non-padded bra really doesn't look much different. For me I didn't go overwhelming huge for my frame, which I think definitely makes a difference on whether it LOOKS like you had a boob job.

I've been planning on getting mine done for awhile now, but since I got my promotion at work my boss hasn't been letting me take vacation . I'm hoping to get it done fall-ish of this year. I think what I'm going to do is gradually start wearing bras with more and more padding, so it isn't as obvious to my co-workers. I think I've decided to go with about 320cc which would put me at around a c cup. I also would like to get silicone which is about 1k more than saline.

i got mine done about three years ago and it was the best decision. i, too, got 325cc of saline under the muscle. i didnt tell work about it but wonder if they noticed bc it was definitely a difference (went from 34A- after two of my three kids to a 34C). the recovery for me was a little rougher but i think that is bc i had some reactions to pain meds after and was dealing w that. it is the best decision i made and i have never looked back. i was not feeling very feminine or girly and now i feel more proportioned and can finally fill a bra. i didnt want anything too obnoxious either.. just something subtle to balance out my frame better (5'4"). i cant remember exactly but i think it was 5k or so. also, i had one more child after and had no problems with nursing, etc. which was great

I had mine done on a Monday and I was driving by Thursday I must admit that I truly LOVE them (so does hubby ) I have silicone implants that were inserted at the base of the nipple. Most people do not know that I had them done since they look natural. A friend of mine thought I was still breastfeeding... she did not believe me til I showed them to her My only issue is sensitivity. When it is cold my boobs hurt more and my nipples are MUCH more sensitive.

I got 375 CC and I am a full C, sometimes a 32 D... I was a 34 A before. I am 5'3.5, 115lbs and they are perfect for my body type IMO. Silicone makes them appear/feel more real and they last longer that saline.

I had tummy lipo at the same time and the total was only 7K. Very happy with my results. I paid for most of it and financed through CARE CREDIT since they had 18 months interest free special. I decided that I would use the banks time and they will be paid off very soon

Feel free to PM me with any questions.

My doc told me the only difference between saline and silicone, once they are in the body, is that with saline you might get a ripple that you can feel with your finger under the boob. He said you don't get that with silicone, but otherwise you can't feel a difference. I've never felt a silicone boob so I have no idea if this is true.

Another reason I got saline is because if by chance the silicone does rupture you will have no idea. The only way to determine a rupture is through a mammogram, which he recommended regularly for silicone implants. But, if you are close to 40 and are having mammograms anyway, then I suppose it wouldn't be a big deal.

That is exactly what I did. I was in the USMC when I had mine done and no one really knew about it other than my commanding officers. The only reason they knew is that I had to take leave for almost a month. It was a much more brutal process in the early 90's. No feeling in nips for one year and 6 weeks to return to full activity.

I would like to get them redone with silicone, but they are still in perfect condition so there is no reason.

Char, your story is amazing! I can't believe how easy it was for you. I will have to research and see if I can find someone who does the rapid recovery procedure. It sounds so nice.
Jamie, I'm going to look into Care Credit. 18 months with no interest? That's sweet.

Wait, boob jobs aren't permanent!? WTF:

Quote:
Saline breast implants have a proven safety record, however, as with all breast implants, they are not permanent. Eventually the implant wall or valve will fatigue, and the implant will leak. Since they are filled with sterile saline, which is similar to the body's own natural fluid, the saline will be harmlessly reabsorbed by the body.

From what I know, they are NOT permanent. When you have them, you need to have them replaced every 10-15 years I think (timeline mary vary depending on what kind you get).

Not permanent at all. Saline must be replaced about every 8-10 years versus silicone 12-15 my doc said.

That kind of sucks. I'm having trouble finding info on replacing implants. Does anyone know if they can use the same incision over again? How do you find out that they need replacing?

Yeah, my friend redid her saline implants recently, and she said her surgeon went through the same incision (hers was inside her navel, so no visible scars). She noticed one boob had shrunk visibly, so she got a revision and she said she recovered in no time.

You can use the same place. My incision is at the lowest part of my nipple and does not show. If you get silicone, my doc said to get an MRI after a few years and then every 4 or so to make sure all is well.

I'm sure it isn't a big deal, so I wouldn't worry too much, but definitely talk to your doctor if you are worried. I'm sure no implant is ripple proof. I was reading that "Almost every woman will have some degree of palpable (not necessarily visible) rippling in the breast crease.
If you know you cannot tolerate rippling you may not be a good candidate for breast augmentation."

The rapid recovery is definitely worth it, I sent a friend to him and she was amazed at how fast she recovered. I financed mine thru Capital One Healthcare however it was not interest free, but they did approve me immediately.

I'm kinda looking forward to having them redone in the future, this way I can go a little bigger and perhaps go silicone.

Char, when you get yours redone, will it be $4500 again? Or do you get a cheaper price on follow-ups?

Char, it's been 3 years?? What the heck? That went by fast!!!

The old saline did feel very different than silicone. "Hard" some may say...silicone feels like real boobs. My ex's ex had saline back in the day & he said her boobs were hard as rocks as well as my sis's. They were really hard feeling.

I'm sure they have improved but I got mine done 11 years ago.
I have silicone & will have mine replaced sometime soon. I have had no issues whatsoever.

I can't remember how big I went. 450 cc's I believe or 475 but I'm tall. I don't think they look big at all until I see some pics of myself & then I'm like whoa.
I used to be 15 lbs lighter too. People called me 2 tits on a stick. Be careful to not go to big....or to small though. Most women want bigger after they get theirs.

Mine were $4500 11 years ago so I'm surprised they are still the same. Silicone was $1000 more back then and it was hard to get them to do it. They had to have a good reason for it.

Do it. You'll be happy.

Oh and I have no rippling either. I also had a child & breast fed.
