this may be kinda gross, but i've foregone actual body wash/soap in lieu of body scrubs. most body scrubs have a cleansing sort of element in them already. the most important part, imo, is to use a good moisturizer directly after the shower when you're still wet. i usually use a moisturizer with glycerin or a body oil directly out, then go on to the rest of my routine (face wash, etc.) while i wait for that to dry, then i'll put on another moisturizer, usually a scented one that will go with the scent i'm going for that day.

L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil
It's pricey at $22 but if your skin is not extremely dry like mine, you might even be able to get away w/ not having to moisturize afterwards. You can also use it as a shaving cream substitute.

For a cheap option, I love the nivea cream oil body wash line that recently came out. My favorite is called Touch of Happiness and it is super creamy. I use it to shave too because it is so much more moisturizing than regular shaving cream.

I like to exfoliate with an oil-based sugar scrub first and then use the body wash. Leaves skin super soft and moisturized.

Stephanie, i definitely second the sugar scrub. for some reason, a salt scrub seems like it would be drying. for a cheap alternative, i like the st ive's apricot scrub too.

OP, my favorite moisturizer for winter is Sabon NYC's body butter, the one that comes in slices.

You're only supposed to use soap on your stinky parts.
I use the Nivea body wash & Cetophil too sometimes. I like them both. I also love sugar scrubs!

Ling, I love Sabon NYC!

OP -- I use their Shower Oil which is lovely moisturizing body wash. Actually, my husband is the one who buys it for me. Who would have thunk?

^Linda, i have been in love with Sabon since i serendipitously wandered in when i went to nyc! i just ran out of the vanilla coconut body butter, but i recently bought the shower oil, just haven't started using it yet! it's a bit pricey (mostly just the shipping), but oh so worth it! maybe i'll place an order since they're doing free shipping for orders over $60...

^ oh yeah, that bottle is seriously heavy. I'd rather have it shipped than carry it home from NYC.

I've never smelled the vanilla coconut. I may have to order it and replenish others while the free shipping thing is going on.

Have you tried the hand cream? I need a hand cream that I will like.

the vanilla coconut smells very ... vanilla-y? not quite like dessert-sweet, but definitely a warm and sweet, good for winter sorta smell!

what sort of texture do you like for your hand cream? i have samples of their organic one.
i really like the cake beauty handmaid. it's light, but moisturizing.
i'm not a big fan of the super thick ones, they're too greasy to me.

ETA: i just found my sample. it feels amazing! it is the organic one, and it has a very "herby" smell. i'll probably try one of their other not-organic scents though!

The organic one, and all organics, are 20% off now.

For hand, I do not like greasy. I want something thicker but sinks in without laying on top. Does that organic one fit the bill?
