Sultra The Bombshell

Does anyone have one of these curling irons? I want one so bad. My friend just bought one and it does awesome things to her hair plus the reviews are great.

^ I ordered it! I'm supposed to have it by Monday I'll let you know. I was debating between this and an enzo milano and I heard this one was better so I just took advantage of the Sephora F&F sale and ordered it!

I want to try one of these, too, especially since I have naturally curly hair and this might actually help and not be a huge PITA for the one or two strands that never want to curl any more.

^ Do you have the Conair You Curl? b/c I was considering getting that since it is $100 cheaper but I'm not sure about the size since it gets quite narrow at the end. I might just buy it and compare it to the Bombshell to decide if the bombshell is worth the money.

It was a Remington. I was going to buy one online, but I figured I'd try one out before I spent $100+ and not like it. I originally wanted one without a tapered barrel but it works fine for me Now, If only I could stop burning myself

^ ooh I see. I've never seen that one before!

Okay for those of you interested. I got back early today so I was able to try the Bombshell out!!

It comes with a glove and a mat to protect counters from the heat of the iron:

The curliness of your curls depend on how big of a section you curl and how long you keep the hair on the iron. I took bigger sections for the most part and varied the amount that I left the iron on just to see the varying degrees of the curl I can achieve.

First 2 pics are with my top short layers of hair clipped up so you can see the curls better. The last pic is w/ my short layers down.

Overall pics:

Your results will probably be prettier than mine if you have longer layers. I have a lot of layers and the layers on the top are quite short.

Oh and here is the curl difference between a clipless iron like the Bombshell vs. a regular curling iron USING the clip:

With the Bombshell, you can achieve a curl that is more like a wave that you can't achieve when using the clip on a regular curling iron.

So here are my thoughts:
I used to just use my regular curling iron w/ out the clip to do achieve the curls you can w/ the clipless irons like the Bombshell. But I wondered if I could get better results w/ an actual clipless iron so I ordered the Bombshell to see.. and I must say, I defiitely like the Bombshell results better. It has infrared technology that help heals your hair as you curl and as a result - my curls look shinier and not as frazzled as when I use my regular curling iron which is a Conair Infiniti. Also, all my curls are still in place and just as bouncy as it did a few hours ago. With my regular Conair iron, if I curled my hair using the wrapping the hair around the iron method like you would do on a clipless iron - my curls wouldn't last. By the end of the day, they would have loosened out quite a lot. Also it took me much less time using the Bombshell - around 10-15 min for my entire head and I have a lot of hair. The iron heats up really fast and gets quite hot and I think the heat just penetrates the hair better b/c with the Conair I would have to hold my hair on the iron longer to get the same curl. So for me, I think the Bombshell is totally worth the money since I see myself using it a lot more often than my curling iron b/c it saves me time and I have less damaged and shinier hair! But if you have a regular curling iron that costs $100+ (my conair is only $25-30 ), you might find that just doing the hair wrapping method on the iron will get you the same results as you would on a Bombshell.

I will update on how long these curls last. I didn't put in any hair spray or anything so how long the curls last will soley depend on the effectiveness of the Bombshell.

ETA - oh and here is a pic of my hair curled with a regular curling iron USING the clip (not the hair wrapping method w/ out the clip) so that you can see the difference between the curls you get between a clipless vs. clip iron. The curling iron I used is 1.25" rather than the standard 1", so it produces looser curls than the standard irons.

^ hmm when I use my flat iron, the curls are definitely more spiral rather than a wave. That's why I never use my flat iron to curl anymore since my 1.25" curling iron gives me looser curls than my flat iron which is 1".

no prob! hope you get it for Christmas! My friend borrowed it to do her hair and she think she's going to buy one too. The waves looked a lot prettier on her b/c her hair is so long!

I love the curls from the Sultra!! You're really pretty too!

Ahh I don't know if I can justify spending that much on a curling iron...

awesome pics Carol!

I've wanted to get this to curl my daughter's hair but I'm scared that I'll burn her. And myself too.

That looks incredible! I think it would be awesome for people like me who have natural waves and not really curls.

WOW! You hair looks AMAZING Carol! I hardly curl my hair & now after seeing this thread, I think I'm going to pick one up Totally bummed I didn't see this until after the Sephora F&F coupon Did you put any products in your hair before you curled it? When I have curled my hair those few times, it seems like the curls NEVER stay more than 2hrs- so that's why I hardly curl my hair.

^ I used a heat protectant spray before like I always do whenever I use heat on my hair. I woke up today and my hair was still curly so these curls definitely do last longer than w/ a traditional iron. I think that was what a lot of the reviews were saying too - that people who couldn't get their curls to stay normally were able to have lasting curls with the Bombshell.
Oh but I think the curls have less staying power than if you were to curl w/ a flat iron - but you can't get the waves that you can w/ the Bombshell, in my experience at least.

I don't think you'll burn yourself easily if you wear the glove while you're doing it. I actually burn myself less with this than w/ the traditional iron since I tend to roll my hair up and accidentally end up touching my scalp w/ the regular iron. W/ the Bombshell, you just place the wand where you want it and then use your hands to wrap the strands around it so you don't accidentally touch your scalp with it.

Thanks everyone for your kind words! I used it again this morning before running out the door but since I was really short on time. I held the hair on the wand for only 3-5 sec each and my hair turned out to have effortless looking natural loose waves. I definitely can't get away w/ holding my hair on my regular iron for that short of a time and expect to see any results. This thing is such a time saver!

Awesome review Carol! you have gorgeous hair
I was going to try the cheapie Conair You Curl since it has pretty good reviews and I found a $5 rebate for it, but I think this one's going on my Christmas wish list.

Thanks for doing this!

I'm so interested in getting this but i'm still scared because she's 7 yrs. old! Them buggers move!

She loves soft waves & curls and I do use a curling iron or she puts in soft rollers at night.

But, if it's only a few seconds per curl, it might work out just great for her.

Thank you always for the great advice Carol.
