foundation recommendations

for covering acne

so i recently switched from the pill to an IUD and all hell broke loose on my face. im working on clearing up the acne with my doctor. but in the mean time my face looks like shit. so i need a good foundation to hide my acne till i get it cleared up. ive never used make up that wasnt from a drugstore and thought now might be a good time to splurge. is more expensive foundation worth it?

so whats a good recommendation that will cover up my acne with out looking thick and caked on and also doesnt make my ance worse or my face oiler [another result of my IUD].

I don't use foundation but I love MAC studio fix. I also use their concealer stick for under my eyes and I find it's really light and covers the darkness pretty well. I'm assuming the foundation would be the same.

^I wouldn't use MAC foundations if you have acne problems. It'll just make your skin condition worse. It is not oil free and is very heavy and clogs pores like no other.

You should probably look for ones that state that is oil free or have the words "oil control, mattifying, etc." in the description. Oh and definitely avoid cream foundations. You might want to look into powder foundation if your face is really oily. I think a good place to start is with Make Up For Ever's line: Make Up For Ever's HD foundation (oil free, medium coverage, liquid) or Mat Velvet+ (oil free, mattifying, full coverage, liquid) or Duo Mat Powder Foundation (oil free, mattifyind, powder). I would think one of those would definitely work for you Sephora has a foundation finder for different complexion types that could help give you suggestions too.. Sephora: Beauty, Skin Care, Makeup, Hair, & Fragrance

I use Loreal True Match and I have read quite a few makeup artists really like it too. I use it when I have a serious breakout that needs covered but other days I use BM.

I second this this.
You will notice a difference from cheap brands. I'm quite prone to breakouts and generally have to go oil free, I've been using this for over a year and haven't had any problems with my makeup.
This is one of the few products I would not go anywhere without.

I have to disagree with Carol (although she is the MAKEUP QUEEN..and I WANT HER TO HAVE A BLOG NOW ;)) I love the most oiliest skin ever and used to have acne (now I just have scars) it doesn't make me break out at all. I wear MAC studio fix foundation and the studio fix powder over that. I wear their liquid concealer for my dark circles.

I totally agree with Carol. MAC makes me break out like crazy, and is so thick that it doesn't allow skin to breathe. A few of my friends that work for MAC even advise against it for acne-prone skin. I like Neutrogena SkinClearing Foundation.

If you wait a few days I just bought the laura mercier flawless face kit and I can review that for you. I have oily skin and I woke up this morning with a TON of zits.

feel free to disagree with me anytime! Everyone reacts differently to different products so it's good to hear what works for different people! The blog plan is temporary on hold atm, so much crap I have to do first!

I use Make Up Forever's MatVelvet+ and I LOVE IT

... yeah... I don't know if it's good for acne or whatever, because I'm on BCP and I barely get any, but I love this foundation

I have mature, hormonal, pre-menopausal - acne prone skin and use Urban Decay Surreal Skin Mineral Makeup foundation with no problems.

i use the "intensive" line of everyday minerals. it works really well, imo. my skin is oily (but flaky when im dehydrated), and breaks out sometimes. I also got stuff from sephora that i can comment on. would a primer or something like that help? i just got the dior one essential stuff and love it.

look at the inner wrist. If your veins appear green, you have yellow undertones aka warm. If your veins appear blue, you are cool toned. Purple would be neutral.

So I just wanted to let you know what I thought of the laura mercier stuff. I didn't like it. I bought the oil free flawless face kit and followed the directions but I just wasn't impressed. It covered well but not any better than my loreal true match, it was 65 for the kit and I just didn't feel it was worth the money. I liked the concealer though. My face was greasy by noon and I put it on at 8. I read on makeup alley that some people thought the original was less oily than the oil free so I ordered that one to see.

The Laura Mercier kit consists of a tinted moisturizer, not a foundation, so if it falls short on the coverage, that's why. I've heard the thing about people getting more oily w/ the oil free one too. Nars Sheer Glow actually gets some people less oily than Nars Sheer Matte foundation also. Usually this is caused by your skin producing excess oils to combat the oil controlling properties of the foundation. You could also try skipping moisturizer if you're oily since this is a tinted moisturizer after all. I can't skip moisturizer since I'm quite dry and the moisturizing properties in tinted moisturizers usually aren't enough to keep my face hydrated.

^ the concept is cool but everyone I heard from says you have to spray it onto somewhere first and use a brush to apply it. If you try to just spray it on your face, the effect won't be very nice

I felt like the coverage was fantastic when I used the conceler too. It didn't look like I was wearing any makeup which I I am hoping the original one works better. If not I quit on dept. store makeup. I was really just curious about it and didn't really "need" it.
