Has anyone gotten a CND Shellac manicure?

Hello, Shellac

Has anyone here tried or heard of CND's Shellac manicure? It is supposed to last 14 days and have zero drying time. I've been reading reviews online, and it looks promising, but I wanted to check here too.

They just got this at my salon. The girl who does my hair is a big fan. She usually doesn't wear nail polish because she spends so much time washing hair and using products that it never lasts.

I'm not sure how long it lasts for her. I'm going to get an update next time I get my hair done.

Is this going to have to been done at a salon or will the products be available for purchase? I have several salons around me that do it, but haven't seen anywhere to buy.

If anybody knows...
Are Gel Polishes and Shellac the same thing; just differnt companies? Does it just get brushed on like polish or does it need to be "built up" like gel nails? How do you remove it?

I would LOVE polish to last 2 weeks....especially if I can do it myself! I painted my nails at 2:00 yesterday, by dinnertime the tip of my right index finger had already come off! Apparently, washing dishes is a bit too much to ask of Sally Hansen Manicure in a Bottle

Let us know what she says!

It has to be done at a salon because they cure it with a UV light. I suppose you could find somewhere to buy all the supplies, but it would probably be expensive.

No, they aren't the same thing. Apparently, the manicurist just brushes a few layers of basecoat, polish and topcoat on "curing" them under the UV light instead of having to wait for them to dry. I'm not 100% sure how the gel polish works, so if it is the same way please correct me.

It says for removal you have to go back to the salon and they put these individual little "wraps" on each nail that have acetone pads in them. 5-10 minutes and the shellac is supposed to slide right off.

There's a thread on TPF where the girls buy the shellac and lamp then do it themselves. There's also another brand called Gellish with more color options.

Well, I WAS sold on this

My best friend is a stylist and was going to pick up the base coat, top coat and a couple of colors for me from her supply store so that I could give it a try myself...well...the base and top coat are apparently sold out! They haven't had them in in a while and said that every week they hope they will come in...but don't

I refuse to pay what they are going for on ebay Holy CRAP!

One salon in my area does it and they charge $48. I don't know that I'm willing to pay that much every 2 weeks for such a limited color selection Its one thing if I make the initial investment myself and then have them to use when I'm willing to commit to the same color for a couple of weeks, but not THAT much

Yeah, the color selection is bleak. I have a $20 coupon to a local spa that has it. They charge $30 so if I can use the coupon towards it, I think I'll try it. $10 would be pretty cheap

Now $30, on the other hand, I COULD do every 2 weeks I would just paint a fun color over it if I felt the need to shake it up a bit...and then use non-acetone remover to take it off.

You'll have to take pics of your mani at a couple of different stages

I'm not sure where else! Haven't tried it, but sounds like a great polish!

i had it done and *love* it. after 2+ weeks, i have 1 *small* chip and i am rough on my nails (usually i have chips after a few days [no matter what base/top coats i use]). i got a french mani done. it was $25 + tip at the place i went to. it's very simple to do so i can see why people do it themselves. i plan on doing it myself after going to the salon a few times to observe the technique (and wait until CND makes more so it's not sold out everywhere). really the only way to tell my nails are not freshly done is the grow out portion and a few spots are lifting some (which i found out you can just glue down with nail glue, lol). i haven't tried soaking it off yet, but i hear it comes off easily (with no grinding!).

^ that's how much it costs where I go as well, I think it's excessive especially when you can buy a bottle for that price and get mutiple uses out of it!

Thanks for sharing your experience!

The ladies on the purse forum talk about gelish (a similar product) being better, and the products used are cheaper per use, plus they area available, unlike the CND stuff.

I plan on buying the supplies and trying it at home.

I had the Shellac done, and it's expensive in my area - $40 plus a $10 tip seems a little much for me, to do it every 2 weeks or so.

you have to use a special base & top coat (each being ~$20), plus get a special UV light (not sure how much but transdesign sells one for $150 but you might be able to get one on ebay for $30 from asia) so that's why it's expensive. you can't just use 1 bottle of it. but in the long run, it's cheaper, just a bigger start up cost. if you want different colors that would be ~$20 each.
