Do you use any product on your hair before you use it? I haven't yet, but wondering if anyone does. In reading the reviews on Folica, one person said that the iron would make a loud popping noise when she used it, and that it may have been b/c she put something in her hair before styling.

I only used it on very well towel dried hair. All the moisture was soaked up and it was almost dry. My iron broke so I no longer have it but I'm not sure how wet her hair was when this person used it. I also use a spray on heat safe by bumble and bumble and Aveda Smoothing fluid before I flat iron.

I pretty much only use mine on dry hair. Very slighly damp if I'm in a rush. I felt like it dried out my hair if I used it while my hair was wet. But to answer your question, I use a thermal spray or iron guard.

I use it on partially blow dried hair. I use a thermal conditioner (Kerastate Refletction Chroma Thermique) or an oil such as Chi Silk Infusion.

It will make a sizzling sound where there is some moisture and there will be steam from where the moisture hits the hot plates. But, where my hair is dry, there is no noise or steam.
