Skin lightener for scars?

So I recently came back from 2 months in Hawai'i on missions. While I was there, I went to a bamboo forest that was infested with mosquitoes. I wasn't forewarned, and didn't bring insect repellent and my legs got attacked! Now it's been weeks and though the bites have healed, they've left behind dark spots on my legs. It wouldn't be too bad normally, but I literally have 30 of these spots on my legs alone. Any ideas on products to lighten these spots? I've never used skin lightening products, but I really can't wait to wear shorts again without my legs looking diseased or something.

I always see commercials for Mederma, I am not sure if it is just for stretch marks or skin lightening as well

ETA: it is also for scars, pretty prciey IMO but you can get it at any local pharmacy. I haven't used it personally, but just know of it!

bio-oil might help
I haven't been consistent using it, do I don't have much to report, but I do believe some ladies on here had good results from it.

Hmm thanks for the ideas. What's bio-oil? It's just really overwhelming trying to find a product because there are so many "miraculous" skin lightening products on the market and I don't want to have to buy a bunch to find one that works. Anyone have any personal experience with skin lightening products?

Amazon.com: Bio-Oil, 2-Ounce Bottle: Beauty

Has good reviews and is fairly inexpensive.

I've tried bio oil on my face, I keep forgetting to use it on my legs though! I also have so many of those ugly dark spots left behind by cuts/bug bites but on my face, I think it did help somewhat for post acne marks.. But it wasn't a huge noticeable difference though.

a long time ago my derm told me to poke a hole in a vitamin E capsule and rub the liquid inside on scars to help lighten them... i vaguely remember it working on some makes i had on my legs back in the day. this was over 15 years ago though. i am pretty sure i do remember it helping though!! something helped b/c i don't have any old bug bite scars on my legs now!!!

i have also used a cream from mexico called "crema de concha nacar" for skin lightening purposes!! i have actually used this on a tattoo on my foot that i had lasered off and my scar is very light now!!! my dad has used it too on sun spots on his face and it did lighten them!! my cousin got me a big jar of it from mexico though.... i am sure you could find it online somewhere!!! i wanna say i have seen it being sold at walmart in that special mexican products section in the beauty department... not sure if your walmart would have one of those sections or if that is just my walmart b/c i am texas!!!

eta: this is the one i have used before!! my dad has used one in a pink jar.... i will try and find it online!!

eta again: this is the one my dad used for his face after my mom bought it from an infomercial on univision or something!!! it actually worked for him though!!! it is kind of pricey on their website (my mom bought the kit with different products in it. #2 on their site).... it would be awesome if you could find just one jar of it!!

Retin-A. It worked wonders for my scar that I had on my chin from falling off a swing when I was 3, I had a deep scar from the stitches that never went away until I used that

Mother Pearl
You can also just buy Vitamin E oil. When my son had his stitches removed from his chin earlier this year (or maybe last year? He's had stitches in the exact same spot twice in just under a year.), the dr told me to put that on the scar.

You all are dolls! Thanks for your suggestions! I'll try out the Vitamin E oil if I can't find that Mother of Pearl cream for a cheaper price, and I'll be sure to let you all know how it works out. Thank you all!

hi dear sarah! do you have any updates already? you might want to try Metaderm spot lightening cream. i've been using it for my dark spots and some hyperpigmentation. my mom's using it for her melasma. it has proven itself to be effective at least in our case so you might want to try it.
