| | | used 50 SPF and STILL got a little burned? i have an olive complexion, and have never burned...even before the days of using sunscreen.
i have been at Disney this week, and applied 50 SPF sunscreen religiously every day...and my nose, forehead and cheeks got red anyway (never really happened before). and WITH 50 SPF? yikes. no peeling though, and it doesn't really hurt, just reddish.
i hate getting burned, and i don't want to tan AT ALL. what can i do next time? any ideas why i still burned through 50 SPF? |

| | I have a friend at work who is in cosmotilogy (sp?) school and always yells at me about using sunscreen when I tan. She said you can STILL get a tan/sun by using spf 50. I said no way, she said yes!
Did you use a one specifically used for faces or one for faces and body?
Hope you are having fun at Disney! I live about 30 min from there!

| | | how quickly did you burn after applying?
did you reapply? certain brands are not photostable so it will lose efficacy more quickly than others.
which one did you use? |

| | you always have to reapply sunscreen pretty much every hour or so in order for it to be actually effective. I don't either though it's so annoying!

| | | I did too Shi! Last weekend.
I threw that sunscreen out but did you know that SPF 50 is no different than SPF 30? I wouldn't spend the extra money to get the 50. |

| | It might have been unstable (which means that with that type of s/s you would HAVE to reapply every 2 hours or you would most likely get burned). There are sunscreens that you don't have to reapply (i.e. stable s/s) unless you go in th water or sweat alot. What was the s/s & how old was it?
This notepad on MUA has great info (go towards the bottom & there are tons of links under "Sunscreen" that will help you out & tell you which ones are stable, plus even more info http://makeupalley.com/user/notepad/Haruka |

| | i applied it about three times in one day. it's for all areas of the body (and for adults), so maybe that's my mistake.
luckily it doesn't hurt, but still...my first burn.
kids didn't burn at all...hubby burned just like me.
Linda, since it didn't hurt, i didn't really notice it until evening. my face looked red all over, and i thought it was because it was freakin' hot as hell in Orlando. i realized the redness in my upper cheeks and nose when we got back to our condo and i took a shower, etc.
EDIT: thanks teenbeauty. hubby bought it right before we left, and it's banana boat sport. no good, imo. |

| | banana boat sport.
i'll never let the hubby pick out sunblock again.
i put it on even on the cloudy days. at home, i use a face cream with SPF 15 and i've never burned; maybe i should have just stuck with that. |

| | | are you sure it's a sunburn and not irritation?
oxybenzone is irritating and a lot of people find that it burns and causes redness.
i avoid oxybenzone anyway. i've read some bad things about it. |

I usually don't burn, but i did when i didn't get to reapply when i was in FL a few months ago
I use the same one as i do here, where i don't need to reapply for the same amt. of time
Of course, like you Shi, i didn't realize it until much later
Some of the Banana Boat Sports are photostable
Check the S/S sticky. |

| | Yeah Banana Boat brand is not that great, and probably has other chemicals that can irritate skin. I get my sunscreen at Whole Foods. My skin is sensative, so I have to use a more natural brand. I use California Baby sunscreen on my daughter, and she's never been sunburned. It's expensive, but worth it

| | | I get freckles with some sunscreens but don't burn either. That ocean potion 80SPF keeps the freckles away though its not specifically for the face and it is greasy. I usually stick to physical ones as well but sometimes if I am going to be out where there is a lot of sun I'll use a chemical and try to deal with it.

| | | Did you make sure to use enough? I think the usual amount recommended is 2 tablespoons for your whole body and a teaspoon for the face. Also, it's not expired, is it?

I used a liberal amount; I think it's because I haven't been exposed to the sun consistently for many years...especially in Florida.
I got quite tan too. |

| | | Well, like others have said, maybe it's just a really crappy formula! Or maybe there was something wrong with that particular tube.

| | | I am extremely impressed with my Coppertone sensitive SPF 50. I've spent the past two days outside in Greece, and I don't have any tan whatsover. I reapply 2-3 times per day, using large amounts though.
lilspesh, sorry to hear you had to deal with melanoma. I'm glad it was removable.

I have a "friend" who had a removable melanoma and still goes to tanning beds because "[she] can just get the next one removed too!"
