My *Hormonal* ACNE cure!

Haha, 'Cure' don't ya hate how promising that word is? ;)

Seriously..

Only thing that has helped my 'hormonal' acne! I am over the moon!
Thought that i would wait over a month before i recommend it to you guys as i do not believe in short-term reviews anymore!
The product is a supplement called, 'Diindolylmethane' (Goes by DIM in health stores) mentioned in the the MUA before only briefly..
I use this brand myself as it was recommended to me by my local (And oh so knowledable) FraiserFarm's sales assistant! It is this one by Natures Way called, 'Dim Plus' Here <---
I have pretty normal skin now and no more of those horrid painful bumps! I noticed results within 2 freakin' days and i was sure this was just a fluke, but it just got better.. I am not saying my skin is perfect and this may not work for everyone but if your like me, and have always struggled with sensitive/hormonal skin issues you will understand where anything that can take the edge off is very welcomed!!

The reason this works for hormonal acne is because it is an estrogen metabolizer (increases levels of "good" estrogens (2-hydroxyestrogen) while reducing the level of "bad" estrogens (16-hydroxyestrogen) etc

More info on DIM here <---

Really hope this helps anyone! Give it a go, much cheaper than all those skin products that make promises!
If ou try it out please update this thread! Thank you!

Kisses and Cookies <3

this is interesting...
i take a low dose b/c, only because it keeps my skin looking nice. i dont really have acne, i just had the occasional zit, always hormonal. on ortho-tri lo, my skin is always clear. i often wondered if there was something i could take with the same effect, that wasnt neccesarily b/c.
im gonna check that out. thanks hips

Thanks for the info Hips! I am desperatly trying to find a way to get rid of my acne caused by hormone levels. I recently changed my b/c pill because my old one was giving me terrible headaches. I'm really happy with the new pill i'm on; i've lost the weight i gained and i don't feel like my moods are affected as much, but it has caused me to break out on my chin.

I wonder if this could help? Is it safe to use whilst on b/c? I wonder if it is available in the UK, or does anyone know of a reputable US online health store that delivers internationally?

ETA: I searched for DIM on the Holland and Barrett (a UK health store) website and it found this:
Holland and Barrett - Product details for Estrobalance

I wonder if it's the same thing?

Yaaaaay! I can't wait to try it, but I'm not exactly sure when I'll be able to... it's probably not safe to take while nursing. My hormonal acne has been acting up fiercely lately. Oddly, it actually was better when I was pregnant when it's supposed to get worse!

^^ I did some research for y'all and the consensus is that it may be ok depending on the individual but it is recommended that you speak with you doctor first! (I would d so in any case)

I have crazy pmt/pmd and i get the horrid cystic painful bumps on my temples etc but not anymore.. My moods stabalized and i have no cystic bumps (Or acne) just some odd clogged pores which go away
I am an advocate for DIM and i am thrilled that it is natural and not some harsh drug or topical or what not!

Here is the info and ingredients of the one i take: (I take the Natures Way DIM_plus brand as recommended to me)

http://www.naturesway.com/?pid=14810
DIM-plus™ for Healthier Estrogen Metabolism: Estrogen imbalance is a major contributor to perimenopause, premenstrual syndrome and an unhealthy prostate. Medical research shows these midlife concerns are not due to estrogen itself, but to problems with estrogen metabolism. Fortunately, leading experts have discovered natural nutrients that help restore estrogen balance.

Diindolylmethane, an indole plant nutrient found in cruciferous vegetables, supports the activity of specific enzymes that improve estrogen metabolism when consumed in a highly absorbable form. Scientific research shows diindolylmethane increases the level of "favorable" estrogens (2-hydroxyestrogen) in the body while reducing the level of "less favorable" estrogens (16-hydroxyestrogen).

Why enhanced Absorption? Diindolylmethane is normally insoluble in water and fats, making it poorly absorbed by the body. But when microencapsulated with natural vitamin E, phosphatidylcholine and natural food starch, diindolylmethane becomes bioavailable in the digestive tract.

How is Diindolylmethane different than I3C? Indole-3-carbino (I3C) is the unstable and inactive precursor to diindolylmethane. I3C first has to be converted into diindolylmethane while in the digestive tract in order to become active. The degree of conversion can vary significantly depending upon each individual's stomach acid pH level, diet and other physiological factors. Just how much diindolylmethane you're getting from I3C supplements is unpredictable. But with DIM-Plus™, you're assured a consistent dose of bioavailable diindolylmethane with each and every capsule.

My sister is looking for it too and shes in the UK (Were English, just i moved to CA several years ago!)
She said Nature's Way is in the UK too but can be hard to find and so i found this source for you:
Dim Plus 120 capsules: Amazon.co.uk: Health & Beauty

However, eBay is another option if you are comfortable with that
-xoxox-

I would try to get the brand i use as its worked for me

^^Anytime! I am glad to have found something natural which is why i wanted to share as like most girlies, i spend far too much time swooning over prodcuts that make promises along with a $4549375893 price tag

Please, please ask your doc first if it is safe to use during preggies! I have heard conflicting arguments and its better to be safe

Thank-you. That's the one i found and i think it looks to be the same thing. I think i'll go to my local Holland & Barratt tomorrow and have a look at the ingredients. I would rather try the one that was recommended to you, so i'll have a look at the amazon link as well.

Oh and great decision to move to CA! The weather is really crappy here, as usual! We could do with some Cali sun sending over!

Aww I remember good 'ol H&B.. I used to get their dried apple rings and those, 'Panda' licorice thingys (That do not taste like licorice AT ALL!) ! YUM AND I loved these small mini packets of tiny dried fruit bits (I think they are like a single serving of fruit if i remember?)
--Although, not sure that H&B have them anymore but those were my 'treats' and i recommend both the Panda snacks and these mysterious dried fruit pieces if you can find them!

The DIM ingredients vary from products. I spoke to my go-to guy about DIM for ages and there is quite a few to choose from but some are not as easily absorbed aas others and it needs certain ingredients (process?) to be digested better.. I forget which exactly and do not want to quote him wrong but i just remember him saying that the NW one way the best.. I am sure if you have a good chemist or pharmacy the pharmacist can help you choose the right one! Just mention that you want the one that is better digested! <3

I was searching online just now and although the NW seems top rated online too (Makes me feel good to read that!) the other brand which i know off that has great feedback is BioResponse which is avaliable in the uk AND on amazon uk

(Here is the original brand website/product) --> BioResponse Nutrients - An innovator and leader in nutrient delivery technology )

...Where in the UK are you? Have you been to CA? Im from Ascot (Just near Reading!)
I miss England a lot but i love the lifestyle here (And the sun!)
I get excited talking to anyone from the UK because i am very much a dork ;) <3

PS: I found this discount for the Holland & Barrett site if you do go there or anytime you happen to pop in! Currently active sales from HollandandBarrett.com(UK) -->

Sorry for the essay, i am a bit fanatical about researching things and finding discounts.. (And my adderall keeps me highly driven!)

You are way too sweet to find the coupons for me and help me out with this info! Thank-you!!

And OMG you have brought back memories for me. Panda bars!! They used to be my Saturday morning treat, as well as some other bar from Holland & Barratt that was made of all different, mashed up fruit. It looked pretty gross, but tasted so good! My mum never really let us eat too much chocolate and sweets, so they were a treat when we went into town with her and my dad on a Saturday! I might have to get some today now!

Berkshire is nice! Do you ever come back to visit? I'm in Padiham, Lancashire, about 30 mins outside of Manchester. I did live in Hertfordshire for 2 years from 2004, but i'm a Northern girl at heart. Although i wouldn't rule out moving down south (or to a whole other country) in the future. I've never been to CA, just Miami and Las Vegas, but it's definitely on my "must visit" list.

What do you mean it helped get rid of bumps? What kind of bumps?

I wonder if this will help with my mild acne and every other week occurrences of zits.

^ The nature's way label thing says that it helps promote weight loss. It also says do not take if pregnant or lactating. But it makes sense that it would help you lose weight, not gain it.

It still works for me to curb the hormonl acne but im dealing with a different issue now (one that has plagued me since i can remember) so its super fustrating! You can get DIM at many health stores but also in many online pharmacies and specialty food stores which do good deals! Be sure to get the right stuff, some ae better than others. The naturesmade DIMplus is the best i have found so far.. (esp according to reviews/experiance/suggestions)
