| | | Perhaps she just means a stylist that is experienced in cutting asian hair? It differs quite a bit from cutting caucasian hair from what I understand.

| | | I'm in Stamford. Thanks.
In response to the other comment, different ethnic people have different hair texture. Have you seen a black person go to a caucasian beauty salon to get a hair cut? |

in any case, i'm nowhere near stamford, so i can't help out - sorry!
(p.s. all my cut/color combos come out of japanese hair magazines ) |

| | that's just so odd; does a stylist being Asian automatically better her at cutting hair? my mom has had a ton of botched haircuts done in Taiwan that would differ. Quote:

Just because a hairdresser is Japanese, it doesn't frigging mean she/he is a good one specialized in Asian hair. I am Asian. I would rather have an experienced white/black/latino person cut my hair than a rookie Asian. |

As a CAUCASIAN hairdresser, I cut caucasian people, African American men AND women, and a few Asian and Latino Women ....
wow .. I guess I'm one in a milllion ... apparently those ethnicities are even supposed to WALK into the salon I work in to get a haircut.

| | | I have friends who think asian hairdressers cut their hair the best. I had it trimmed once by her hairdresser and felt the guy didn't do that great of a job. I have a caucasian hairdresser and I love her.

| | | One of the best hairdressers I've ever had was a gay, country, white dude. Afterwards it was a cute mom-like Asian woman. Good hair dressers belong to no specific ethnic groups IMO.

| | | I think she did mean that she wanted a hair dresser with experience in cutting asian hair. She just didn't express it very well IMHO.

| | i went to Kim Sun Young to get my perm! the digital perm, which is only available (as far as i know) in asian salons. they're pretty popular in LA too.
i would suggest OP to look at yelp.com for reviews and tone down the racist comments |

| | hmm let's see. before my hair is straight and kinda boring:
right after the perm, still kinda wet: http://images.plurk.com/1221000_d575...b5ef40901e.jpg
(this is a huge pic so i'll just link it)
after 3 weeks or so (pictured below), it gets more curly depending on how i style it and how much hair product i put in it (more product, more curly). i usually go without hair product these days though cause i like it wavy than curly
so digital perm is more "wave" than curl. i like it so far |

| | thanks it ended up being ~$140 after tip. expensive, but it was an xmas & birthday gift from my good friend (my birthday is in december) and apparently magic straight perm cost even more? (~$200) i normally don't spend much on my hair so i dunno if that's an acceptable price or not :P
it's supposed to last 3-6 months, but doesn't seem to work as well on thin hair. my friend got it the same day i did, and hers is a lot looser than mine now. she has very thin hair. :/ i on the other hand have very thick hair with lots of volume (EVERY hair dresser keeps telling me this whenever i get my hair cut) so it worked better.
actually, i just remembered something. they told me because my hair was thick, i had to get a "setting" perm, which is digital perm meant for people with my type of hair. the end result should be the same though.
edit: i found picture of the process! it was bizarre o_o
they hooked me up to the same medusa like machine, except the one i had was MUCH bigger. i think the one above is regular digital perm
