get it done professionaly ONLY, and even then you have to find someone that knows exactly what they are doing! my best advice is if you see someone with a haircolor you like, ask them where they go/who they see.
it can take some time to find a good colorist. anyway, with darker hair, i don't really know how far you can lift color out to avoid the brassiness. i have ashy brown/dark blonde hair and even i had a hard time until i found the right girl!

oh, andi forgot to comment on the whole going dark in the winter thing... i did it for years and was actually JUST having this convo about 10 minutes ago. i can't decide whether i want to do it this winter or not. i just feel so washed out sometimes with blonde in the winter. ugh!! i don't know!!
