I think it really depends on what your skincare needs are. I have sensitive, acne prone skin, and bouts of flakiness on my face.

The cream was a chore to apply on for me, you have to warm it up a little, use a spatula, etc. It did a decent job of moisturizing and as lawgal mentioned, after it is absorbed you don't feel it clinging on the skin and it's not greasy or anything.

I just prefer the serum because it absorbs almost instantly and is a joy to apply. I tried their toner, cream and serum and out of these, I would only repurchase the serum.

That said, it leaves your skin glowing and pink after about 2 week's use. I love it.

Oh, and I think La Mer was invented for scarring initially, if you do a search you can read up about it. It's supposed to do wonders for scars etc. I did not have any scarring on my face while I was using it, but it made my dull skin look better.
